Coolant reservoir cap pops off when off-road

    Just wondering if any of you have the coolant reservoir cap pop off while driving off-road? I replaced my cap with a new OEM unit thinking that may be the problem, but still does not clip on securely since the lip is very shallow. Is this the case for everyone else? Do not want to replace the tank as well if it will not solve the problem and doubt the lip is worn out much with 96k miles.

    Defrost mirrors, compass/temp display rear view mirror, rear wiper on camper shell, trans.cooler.
    You might try adding a bit of foam to reduce hood clearance to hold it on.

    Nope...never had that happen. Sounds like it might be the reservoir itself needs replaced. Can get them for pretty cheap

    Wonder if you could take a heat source gently to the top and squeeze it inward?

    Put a hose clamp around it as you add heat.

    nope, never heard of that happening, actually.

    Since it's not like you need to remove it often, if ever, just tape it.

    I remove mine every now and then cause I like to sniff the coolant

    Surely I'm not the only one

    sorry OP just BS'ing in your thread...I think you'll either have to replace the reservoir if you really want it to be fixed, or secure the lid to it with some kind of fastener or tape like suggested above and you'll be good

    It should snap on tight.

    Get a new tank or Velcro with double back tape would work.

    you 'should' be able to open the cap (slowly) at operating temp IF the engine is running and there is no pressure in the upper hose

    i used to do that a lot in the very early 90s to check radiators as a quickie lubeTech when the resevoir bottle was not present, usually just saw a drain out hose to nowhwere

    Is the hose to long and pushing on the cap? I think I've occasionally had this happen before but didn't think much of it
