No, he needs to do a coolant system leak/pressure check now. If the head gasket completely fails (and it is likely in that process now of complete failure) it will be much more expensive than the check. And engines have a way of failing at the worst time, like on a freeway, surrounded by vehicles going 10 over, no exits and no place to pull over. The 05 and some (early) 06 are known to fail, it is a real problem and there should have been an SB. JFYI, my engine ran fine, never missed a beat until, boom!

If you get a CEL or all of the lights come on the instrument cluster, get off the road and shut it down NOW if at all possible! And call a tow truck. My CEL came on and then in short order everything came on and then the engine rapidly overheated before I could find a safe place.

Agree with the recommendations on this thread and that it's better to be cautious than to "hope" it's not a head gasket problem.

You can also take a tissue and hold it a couple of inches away from the exhaust (with the engine running) and see if any sweet-smelling moisture gets deposited on the tissue. Coolant tastes and smells sweet and is poisonous if ingested. If you get a hint of coolant on the tissue, you have another early indication that you have a head gasket problem.
