thanks! Hopefully that's all it is. I had just gotten confident in my fix last night so I wasn't comfortable posting any updates till today. :)

Although...now it looks like I have a coolant leak of some sort. the level in the reservoir just keeps dropping after a long night of sitting there.

Did you ever do a pressure test on the coolant system?

Quick google search says the thermostat opens around 190*F give or take. So if you're seeing temps in the low 200s, especially just idling, Id say you've still got an issue.

wasn't able to pressure test the coolant. can't find a tester with the correct adapter. but yes, i did see that it opens around 190. and it holds it there just perfectly fine. low 200's is a little bit on the high side but nothing too crazy. I feel comfortable neough tod rive it for now. I saw cylinder 5 was wayyyy too clean so maybe there is a leak there. :/

I'm willing to bet that you do indeed have a HG issue

Edit: I'm topping off my coolant system every week and a half - two weeks due to my own HG issue

Yeah. I suspect one in cylinder five because that cylinder looked steam cleaned. Which is funny because it's on the other bank from the problematic cylinder two. I'll continue topping off until i can get it to a trusted shop and worked on. this truck is causing me unexpected anxiety and stress.
