You did the easy stuff, but unfortunately, if your windows are fogging, you have to replace that heater core. Ugh!

You can get a general idea of where the heater core is by locating the hard pipes at the firewall. Your heater core is on the other side.

Good thing it's not a Volvo 240, they in stalled the heater core and then built the car around it.

Good to hear. Typically the only thing that can cause fogging of the inside of the windows (and that sweet smell of coolant that often accompanies it) is the heater core. They're just not so easy to see leaking because the coolant either soaks into the carpet or drips out the AC condensate drain. Glad to hear you fixed it though. How long did it take you to swap out the heater core?

How do I fix that? Is it part of the multi point inspection at Toyota?

not part of Muti-point, its an easy fix, tools require are needle nose plier, and a 10mm socket/ratchet. its right in the center of the back firewall looking from the front of the engine bay. now this is for 1st gen 3.4, not sure about the 1st gen 2.7.

    Sorry for the late reply.

Yeah, there was a hairline crack in the radiator. I replaced it and it was fine after that.

I had a small coolant leak this week, and it was the heater control valve leaking slightly, replaced that yesterday. All is well.

Yeah, that is weird. Coolant and sulfuric acid (or nitrogen off gassing) have completely different odors. Strange things happen LOL.

I just replaced mine a couple weeks ago. Would notice the odor of AF and knew it was leaking but no sign of leakage. Then noticed a slight glare of moisture where the metal crimps into the plastic tank. Guessing that was your experience as well.
