    Hi Everyone,

I'm having a difficult time locating the Coolant temperature Sensor for a '05 Tacoma V6 Sport. I went to PartSouq, entered my VIN, and got the diagram for the part, but it does not seem to be located where the diagram shows.

I've searched YouTube to see if others are changing this part, and they are behind the engine, dow low. The PartSouq diagram shows it on top of the engine, back. I have takent the parts off to view this area and do not see the sensor.

Anyone who has some experience with this, please direct me to the proper location

    Thanks.

It is on the back of the engine on the coolant manifold, it's not in an easy to see spot.

They don't fail very often, what kind of issue are you having?

This is the best picture I could get of it, this is looking from the passenger side under the main engine harness.

I think that is what I'm looking at from the other side.
My issue is a P0171. After looking up the code, one of the 'common' issues is the Cooland temperture sensor going bad. I 'sometimes' have a rough idle at start up. This is a transiant issue. On occasion, the temp gauge shows running hot, but it comes and goes too.

    Last summer I changed:
    Spark plugs
    Coil packs
    Injectors
    All O2 sensors
    Air filters
    Cleaned Throttle body

I've never seen a coolant temp sensor cause a lean code, the other 2 symptoms you describe kind of suggest a head gasket starting to fail which is relatively common on 05 and early build 06 models.

The two most common things I see cause a lean code are low fuel pressure and vacuum leaks, a dirty/skewed mass airflow sensor would be 3rd.

All of it is relatively easy to test, I would want to look at long and short term fuel trims for both banks over various driving conditions, see that MAF is reading at hot idle, and do a VE test.

For the suspect head gasket I would pull the plugs, pressurize the cooling system with a pressure tester, allow it to sit for several hours, and then look in each cylinder with a borescope for coolant.

Not sure what you mean? Testing costs nothing but your time and whatever tools are required, firing parts can get expensive in a hurry.
