Bald eagle off Catalina island. He was perched on a cliff watching us fish for about 30 mins. All of a sudden he came head first straight at the boat and swooped up a nice size fish about 20 feet off the stern. Amazing bird...

I have always been a huge reptile fan, and spend a TON of time in the outdoors all over the USA. Have hunted and fished as far back as I remember, and love identifying different species of plants and animals. The smallest, most unusual animals have always caught my attention though.

This is a picture of the mexican mole lizard, and its found along the border from Tucson AZ-possibly San Diego. I found one a few summers ago while digging fire line in the Chiricahua Mtns of South AZ. I had always wanted to see on, had read about them, and on a brutal 100+degree day of working my ass off I dug up one. Very cool for me to find one.

They spend 99.9% of their life deep underground.

Among a whole bunch of other animals. Had a Red Tail Hawk kill itself in my classroom when it flew through the open door and slammed into a window right next to the door when it tried to get out.

Most people haven't. I read about them when I was 10yrs old or so, always wanted to find one. Took me till I was 28, while at work in AZ, and not having a great time. Yes it only has two legs, and is also called the two legged worm lizard Its funny how so many little known species exist in our own country.

When I was 12 or so on vacation from Idaho to AZ, I found one of these[IMG]
Its a Western Blind Snake. They had not been recorded in the area I was at in over 40yrs (Temple Bar). This small snake is closely related to the Boa family and also spends most its life underground.

My favorite NW snake is the Rubber Boa. It lives from 6000-9500ft and is found across the NW into N California. Not rare, but very cool to see. Lots of folks don't realize we have Boa's in N America.

One time when I was in a boat, lake trout fishing in the Quaban Resevior, I saw a mountain lion(or cougar, or panther I don't know) come down off the mountain for a drink. He looked up at me and turned around and walked away like he didn't care that I was there. They are not supposed to be in Ma. Lots of Eagles out there as well.

Maybe we're spoiled here, but bald eagles and other large birds of prey are fairly common. I've seen a few bears here on the east coast and a couple when I was drivin through Manitoba, they are pretty cool.

If you ever been to Alaska you'll hate bald eagles. They're like crows up there and they get into EVERYTHING. I hate the say it but there will likely be an open season on our nations symbol up there someday.

When I was in Costa Rica usaw 20 ' crocodiles from like 10 feet away, in the Tercoles river. Hundreds of smaller 10-15 footers, lots of the giants. If you feel in that river in that area the would be no chance of survival, that was very real.

not so much a cool animal, but cool "Activity".

my tacoma was parked next to a tundra. my friends tundra. we were pushing a race car out into the street to put onto the car trailer the tundra was pulling.

i heard..wind noise..phoosh, phoosh..i look and there are a bunch of pigeons flying low and fast, they fly right in between the trucks. i was right there!! then out of nowhere a big hawk in hot pursuit. he caught the last pigeon right there in between the trucks. it was like a pillow fight gone bad with all the feathers everywhere..the pigeon breaks free last second, clears the trucks..and the hawk reconnected. poof! dinner time. we were left standing with mouths open in a cloud of feathers. it was unbelievable. the pigeons were pulling crazy aerobatic moves..barrel rolls.

in the wild. a black bear at 15 yards. i was waiting for deer to step out to put an arrow into. the "Deer" turned out to be a big black bear. we both pooped in the woods that day.

^^Walked onto a seismic while timber cruising in Pink Mountain and ran into a Bison at 15ft away; stared at each other for half a minute and then it turned and vanished. Wouldn't believe how fast and quiet it was..

Probably the coolest animal I've seen together was Bald Eagle taking a fish away from an Osprey. I saw a mink climb a tree twenty feet up then fall out of it.

Coolest Photo I've been able to get--three black bears swimming in my pond.
