I think many tires feel this way when new. My current set of Goodyear's were scary at highway speeds. Felt like I was sliding around corners. Since they have worn in, they feel just as they should.

My 265/70/16 4S are definitely quieter than the stock kevlar wranglers that came on my OR. I would check the air though... tire shops tend to over-inflate. Depending on your mod situation, I feel like 32 cold seems to the perfect for these tires. And they do "break in" it seems in terms of connecting to the road. I've never felt more connected than I do with these tires now and they are about as far from squirrely as about anything I've driven

I've been told that's the 'release compound' so tires can come out of the mold cleanly. went i got my first set of truck tires it was way more than any car tires I've had, but similar, just not as much. had some Toyo Open Country AT's and they had a bit of greasiness to them new, but not near as much as the Coopers did.

Tires got here today as promised. Thanks for the deal @Discount Tire Direct

These look better in person than the pictures, and got some nice tread on them. Trying to get them mounted tomorrow.

Kid was so excited, he had to have the wife take a pic and send it to me.

cool, really looking forward to mine. you get the C loads? I'll be on 265/65-17 E's, same carcass as the STMaxx in that size. very firm tire, and i love how those drive. looking forward to the same feel as the Maxx but with a slightly friendlier tread pattern for the wife in case she needs to drive it.

Yep, 265 75 16 load c. Only driven maybe 12 miles but so far pretty smooth. Same or little less noise than my falken at3, but still need some time for a real comparo.

Guys, many props to #discounttire, listen to this. Been buying there for 10 yrs, ordered a second set of Hankook dynapro atm for new Tacoma last December of 2017 just like the previous set I had on my old taco. Tires came in and were the new style with no shoulder on them. I wasn’t really happy but kept them anyway, didn’t want to have to go back and mess with hassle of changing out. Was in there this week to get wife’s tires balanced and brought up the situation while they were fairly slow with the manager. Manager asked how many miles I have on them which is around 4K and he got on computer and asked what I would like to swap them out with. I said well can’t really afford to, but if I could I would want the new cooper at3 4s. He said no problem. 70$ is all I would owe. He saw my shocked face and started laughing I said seriously and he said sure. I said order them and he said will call me this Monday when he gets them.

That’s some freaking outstanding customer service right there.

(same post I made in the 4S thread)
OK, I had them installed Nov 1. (265/70R16 AT3 4S) then made the 100 km drive home on major highways in heavy rain (and traffic) speeds from stop-n-go to 120+km/h and all was good. No panic stops required, a couple of standing water issues with no hydroplaning, no noticeable increase in road noise over the stock Goodyear Kevlar Wranglers with 49000 km (5/32" tread left). I then put 300km on driving to our cottage in Northern Ontario in intermittent rain and dry conditions at speeds up to 100 km/h and they ride nice (noise and comfort wise).
I've only had the truck since April (34000 km) so I did not go through a winter with the stock tires. I expect it will be a breeze with the Tacoma on these tires then after with my 90% on/ 10% off road use.
The look is just what I wanted, more aggressive tread and sidewall than stock.
