Thanks, @kakwvu . The spare situation sounds easy to deal with. Have you actually run 265/75-16 tires on your Tacoma? Or has anyone here? I’m wondering if it definitely rubs, or if I’ll be OK. (My truck is stock: no lift kits or anything like that.)

That price is hard to resist.

That’s the most common size for people who go up in tire size without wanting rub besides on the front mud flaps, and even that is minimal. You’re good to go

Actually, I drive and park on gravel all the time as well: I live at the end of a 1 mile dirt road, and much of the driving I do is on gravel roads (there are a lot of them around here). It’s only this specific type of stone that is a problem, and they don’t use it all the time. I’ve had 9 flats in 3 years on three different vehicles (and 4 different brands of tires) just from this type of stone. I’ve live here 18 years, and never had a flat from a stone other than this in all of my 40+ years of driving. I’m not the only one in town with this problem. There is a rash of flats every time they put this type of stone down or when they regrade a road that has had this stone applied previously (some that has been happening a lot on our hills with all the rains we’ve had lately). Many of us are trying to convince the local road crew to stop using it.

You know it’s bad when the local mechanic jokes that he is going to put his kids through college on tire repairs.

@John Mc In AZ I have heard that a higher load rating will help preserve your tires much longer to avoid getting them chewed to pieces by the dirt. I have no personal experience with it though.

Also 255/70R16's will give you the same lift as 265/75R16's while being narrower to give improved traction in some snow conditions since they can cut right through. Nicknamed "Pizza Cutters" for a reason.

Joined this forum because of this thread. I’ve seen a few comments with people saying they were trying to contact Cooper to see about a C load range 275/70R17 in the new AT3s. I did the same and got a reply. Apparently no plans are in place for this tire but he did say that could change. They do have an E load range in the AT3 LT.

With that said is anybody running the 275/70R17 AT3 LT in the E load range? If so, could you give your real world opinions on this tire? I’m seriously considering this option but I’m not sold on going E load range. It would be on my 2016 4Runner Trail that’s mostly a DD with occasional weekend fishing/camping trips so nothing crazy off road.

If you are driving on gravel roads and are going through that many tires I suggest that you go with the Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx. The Maxx was designed for commercial truck use were the user drives on gravel all day. In my personal opinion it is the best tire available for gravel but it does have trade offs such as being louder and a more stiff ride than the AT3.

I have 285/75r16 XLT’s in E load and they’re very quiet and smooth as can be on road. OffRoad they’re great. I know it’s not the exact same tire, but you will still see similar/better results.

Thanks for the input. I wish they offered the XLT in that 275/70R17. I would be all over it.

I only have three miles on them, from tire shop back home. I love the way they look. They are just as quiet as the Toyo AT2s that were replaced and have no distinctive noise differences compared to the KO2s on my Tacoma. I will try to get them out on some forest service roads this weekend to see how they perform.

Hard to tell because I'm on stock GX suspension vs stiff ome bp51s and leaf springs on the Taco. Coopers have 2 ply sidewalls vs KO2s 3 ply.

    I have a 2017 off road taco
The factory tires I barely got 33000 miles out of. I'm looking to get the Cooper Maxx.
I see alot of guys getting 255/85.
Will the standard 265/70/16 run okay?
    Any fender rubbing? Or issues?
    Mine has bilstein shocks
    But factory everything
    I appreciate any help

Go with AT3 xlt tires. I like them a lot more than my old st maxx tires.

    Questions:
What kind of driving do you do?
What do you prioritize your tires do the most? (Looks/Quiet/Price/Traction/Longevity/etc)

Going with that size of tire should be fine regardless the tire type, though.

I do some off roading, some snow & ice, some sand, water, a little of everything. But it's my daily driver. I was going to get the BF Goodrich at's, but I saw these and liked the Cooper maxx. The wrangler AT's that came from the factory are garbage.
I figured for $199 a tire, i would give them a shot. I don't need mud tires. I'm not going crazy muddin'.
I see guys cutting their fenders and other mods, i honestly like mine factory, except the shocks. My buddy kept his factory and never had any problems and used to do all kinds of off roading and never had 1 issue.
Anyway that's what I was thinking

Longevity and traction are my two tops

    Thanks for the help

Actually I'm going to buy the at3 xlt's
Anyone know the best online pricing for 265/70/16?
I found the st maxx for $199 per tire on Amazon and I was hoping to stay in that price range for the XLT's
I haven't been able to find any in that range.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks again

They don’t make the XLT in 265, the smallest XLT is 285. Are you looking for LT?

I really didn't know they didn't make that size.
Is the LT the same tire just smaller sizing?
