They're the same tire. The top one is the AT3 while the bottom one is the AT3 4S. The 4S does have the mountain snowflake rating. The AT3 shown on the top is just a discontinued model that evolved into the 4S. I've used both and they're both great. The siping isn't any different although the 4S has an additional sipe in each lug. The 4S may be a different compound, but I'm not sure. Otherwise, I think the only difference is the side wall where it meets the tread. That's mostly cosmetic anyway (in this case). Same tread pattern and depth though.

I have had those Coopers from Walmart on my truck for a few months in 265/75/R16. I haven't put them through any serious weather or had them off-road, but they're great on the road so far. I am coming from Michelin LTX A/T 2's that were not markedly better than these.

Good to hear. Are the Walmart tires snowflake marked?

I think this will be my next tire, now have to choose between 235/85/16E or 265/75/16C.

I wouldn't let that discourage you though. I don't believe Cooper put these through that testing at the time. Like I said, they're a discontinued model that evolved into what is now the AT3 4S, which does have the rating.

    Update:

I have only 23k miles on the A/T3 LTs and they’re down to around 8/32. I’m going to be switching to the Falken Wildpeaks once they’re down to 4/32 which won’t be long. I’ll probably have 30k on them by that point . . . . That’s a bit too much wear for what I’m looking for. Looking for at least 40k if not 50k out of a set of tires.

I live in UT so rain performance isn't one of my key metrics. However, they have been great in the rain we get, the snow, etc.. Today was a wet, slushy, snowy day in the mountains and they did great, as usual. I'm very happy with the Toyo's and have ~20K miles on them. Will bang again, 9 out of 10.

Edit to add: I added SPC upper control arms to my lift at the end of the Coopers, so not having them for the entire set of Cooper AT3's may have been a contributor to the odd wear I saw.

The LT's are rated to 60K while the 4S's are rated to 65K according to the Cooper website

These look great. I like the 255 size better.

If Cooper made the XLT in that size I’d be open to going back to them. But happy with the Toyos and they come in the size I want.

Exactly. Not bad for a 50lb e rated tire. I currently have the 265/70/17 at3 4s. Want something more meaty on the side wall

Been running them at 25 psi and quite a comfortable ride on the trails. On road, I run them at 38 psi.

How are these tires treating you a few years later?

Anybody running 275/70/17 LT? I might try these. It looks like they're around 53 lb, which is my limit. I really wish there were more options in the XLT size.
