Does anyone know what the difference is between these two tires? I have searched and there is another thread but it isnt really getting any action (I already posted in it a week or so ago). Discount Tire carries the ATP, however it is not listed on Cooper's website. Are they two separate tires? Or is one the newer version of the same tire? I have emailed Cooper but i am not totally optimistic about getting a response.

i can see the differences... and a bunch of the pictures were from this website which was cool. I guess im more interested in the capabilities of each? which one is designed to be more aggressive for offroad handling?

    ATP is more aggressive.

ATP is being replaced by the AT3. Unless you're mudding, the AT3 is far superior to the ATP.

The AT3 replaced the ATR. The ATP is just another alternative, the ATP and the AT3 were both offered at the same time.

5100's all around with OME 884 at 0. Weathertechs, Carhartt seat covers. BFG KO2's 265/70/17. T4R SEMA wheels. 18% tint on front windows. General Springs HD 4 leaf pack, Leer 100 XR shell.
I have the ATP and I dont think you can say its a good mud tire. I would have gone with the BFG AT if I had it to do over again and a few hundred more $'s but its not a bad tire. I like cooper tires a lot.

The ATP isn't a great mud tire, but it's a better mudder than the AT3. The BFG T/A KO is definitely a higher end tire than anything offered by Cooper.

ATP is being phased out, with no replacement in the works.

    ***************UPDATE**************
I finally realized that I had not only 1 but 2 bad wheel bearings and that was what was causing my loud road noise and vibration. I replaced both bearings and then had the ATPs put back on. It is like a different truck. They are very quite and very little to no vibration. I can now say after about 10k miles they have worn extremely well, I would certainly recommend the Cooper ATPs.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to add my experience with the ATP tires in case it can help anyone. I love Discount Tire and have always have great service there. I've also had a different variation of Cooper tires on a SUV that I own and love every aspect of them. The Cooper ATP is carried exclusively by Discount Tire or one of their sister stores. I've put about 10k miles on the ATPs and while they handle wet and dry roads well they are extremely loud and give some vibration through the pedals and steering wheel. I've not had them in snow or mud, so I can't speak to that but if I had it to do again for a AT tire, I would choose something else.

Did you have wheel balance issues prior? Maybe you got a bad tire? I've used both the ATP and at3 and have had no issues with noise or vibration.

I have the ATPs on my Taco and they do vibrate and make some noise on the road, not too bad though.

I also have the atp 265/75/16. They handle fantastic in the snow, rain, and mud. As mentioned above they due have some road noise. Mine have the slightest vibe an yes they are balanced, it's just due to the agreesive pattern. I have 10k on mine and they are wearing like iron, so far I'm extremely happy with them.

I have had the ATPs balanced and rotated with no change in the sound or vibration. When I bought them, I was replacing nearly worn out Nitto Terra Grapplers and the ATPs are far louder right out of the store. I'm really disappointed because I love the look, but I've ordered something less aggressive because I'm on the interstate quite a bit and I can't hear myself think.

I had at/3s on my old z71. They are a good tire and will last along time. And they ride good too.

I guess I need to apologize about my slam on the Cooper ATPs. It turns out I was too dumb to realize I've been riding around with a bad wheel bearing screaming at me for a long time and thought it was road noise and vibration coming from my tires.

I've had both tires. At3 was on a 2011 f150 and the atp is on my 91 jeep. Totally different vehicles but I believe the atp is a better tire in all aspects. Road noise is almost zero on both. Neither tire is rough both are smooth. Either is a great choice though!
