Cool, thanks. I am considering the XL. Wish they made a C rated LT tire though.

I have the E-rated 33's, and I honestly don't notice any difference in ride quality from the SL Wildpeaks I ran previously. The weight is lower than most other E-rated tires, bc they're dual ply + an additional layer of reinforcement (according to the Cooper rep).

That's really good info, thank you. I keep flip flopping between the XL and E in the 265/70/17. A C rated would be perfect but they don't make a C in that size. So it sounds like the ride quality in the E is still pretty smooth. How big of a hit did your gas mileage take going to the E??

It's hard to tell, because I was doing a lot of offroading initially. The past few weeks I haven't been offroad, and the mpg seems roughly the same as with the 265's bc I'm employing some fuel-saving driving practices for the first time (coasting to a stop, not trying to out-accelerate the minivan next to me). I'm just saving that fuel for the weekend excursions to come. If you already drive like you're in a 1997 Buick LeSabre, you might note a ~1 mpg difference.

Unless you spend a lot of time offroad, the XL are more than sufficient. I have 265/70-17 and only saw around a 1-2 drop in mpg compared to the stock Toyo Open Country A30.
