Don’t know where you guys are getting your information but the tire is still listed on the Cooper website. Also a very successful tire that is a little different from this new Rugged Trek tire so don’t see them killing the ST Maxx off anytime soon.

So, I talked to the manager at DT yesterday. He stated that the ST Maxx hasn't been completely discontinued, but instead, they've discontinued certain sizes. I don't know what sizes those are... but it's just what I've been told. I've also been told that the RT is currently only offered in limited sizes and that it will soon be offered in more sizes. Seems awfully coincidental how those changes parallel each other... but I'm not "in the know", just reporting what I've been told.

You got these at discount tire? I cannot seem to find them in any size on their website.

Yes. Look them up on tire rack, print out the price in cart ( check the box to pick them up locally) and bring that to DT for them to price match.

The tire is so new, that it's not on their site.

Oh! Another thing that I'm not sure is showing up for you guys, these tires have a 60k mile tread life warranty... not very common for something this agressive.

You might want to find someone else you can trust for your tire info. First he tells you the ST Maxx has been discontinued and then he tells you certain sizes have been discontinued? I found both hard to believe so I contacted a Cooper consumer rep directly and not only do they have no plans to discontinue this tire, they also have no current plans to discontinue any of the sizes they currently offer.

Was also told they will have several more sizes available in the Rugged Trek than what is currently listed on their website in the future. I asked about a offering in a 285/75r16 and was told that is one of the sizes they do plan to offer at some point. Unfortunately they couldn't give me a timeline on when this size would be available. Don't usually keep my tires for more than a year before I go with something else and its been almost a year since I got my AT3 XLT's so getting antsy to try something new.

If I don't have to wait too long I think this Rugged Trek will be my next tire.

Why do I need to find someone else to talk to about tires? The ST Maxx was never a consideration for me, nor do I care if they are discontinued or not. I think I've made it clear, I'm only repeating what I've been told, by someone who works at DT tire... you take that and do with it what you will...

Maybe because your being lied to? I would think you would like to get facts that you can use to help you when you have questions about tires. But I guess your happy with false information. As long as your happy I guess that’s all that matters.

"Being lied to" is a bit of a stretch. Misinformation? Possibly.

However, I already bought tires, so the side note about an unrelated tire is hardly a concern of mine. He could have told me Victoria Secret filed chapter 11, and it would have had about the same impact on my life... but I may have stopped talking to him at that point...

I wouldn’t take the word of a random customer service rep, and Cooper isn’t any different. Do you think they know that the business strategy is?
I’m sure they would tell me the STT Pro is the best all around tire if you asked about it, and the next rep would tell you the AT3 is.

And the Toyota finance manager is the most honest person in the world, most informative about extended warranties and gap insurance.

A random rep? This person actual works for and is getting paid by the company who makes these tires. If you can’t trust them then who can you trust? And they aren’t trying to sell a tire here either. Just providing info on what they offer. If they were pushing their product and trying to sell something then your thoughts would be valid. But that isn’t the case so your statements don’t really hold any weight. I also have purchased seven sets of Cooper tires in the last nine years and have gotten honest and real information from this source on many occasions in the past. I’ll trust their statements over your opinion any day.

    Cheers

In defense of @msgs350's comment, reps don't always know what's up...

Here's an email from a Micket Thompson rep (same company, no?) Who said the E-load and D-load of the same tire model/size are the same weight... pretty certain the E-load will be heavier, and I home neither are 68 lbs, in that size...

    What road noise?

Seriously though. I just made a trip into the mountains yesterday. While I can convince myself that I hear more whirring noise at freeways speeds... it's nothing to write home about. Definitely no hum or "slapping" noise.
