I have a stock 2017 TRD Off-Road and need new tires - like now. I am newish to the 4x4 world and want to get more off-roading in my life. I am planning a lift in the next year or two but can't wait until then to replace my shitty tires. I am seriously looking into the Cooper ST Maxx. Any recommendations on how big I can go with standard rims and still avoid too much rub? Don't need mud flaps. Thanks!

Save your money and wait till you do the lift. You’ll end up wanting a new larger set then once you realize what you get now won’t fill the wells out.

Considering nobody knows how much you drive, that'll be up to you if you change them now or not. Part 2 is this question has been answered 1000's of times already. However, the search function of the forum sucks. Go to google, and google your question and type tacomaworld after it. You'll have plenty of reading to do from there.

Thanks, but I can't wait. I need to replace my tires right now and don't want to replace with pure street runners. Do you have another recommendation for a hybrid or other tire?

Ive read on the skinny tires forum that you can run 255/85r16 with no rubbing, including full compression and lock. they make the st maxx in that size which is a 33" That size will still fill the fender in nicely once you have a lift installed

I ran the ST maxx in 255/80R-17 on stock suspension, no rubbbing. Should be the same overall size as the 255/85r16

A suspension lift isn't going to help clear the tires more when stuff a tire.

a lift and cmc. However I went the route of lifting and not increasing tire size and was unhappy until I got 285’s.
