That's good to know about the M/S tire. I might be moving to Wyoming and I will keep that in mind for winter tires.

Another good choice would be the new Cooper AT/w it's far superior in snow and ice compared to the AT/3 and ATP, I'll be getting the AT/w for my next set when ever my ST Maxx wear out or I get. New 4Runner LOL...

I have at3s on my truck, they have done pretty well in the mud ive been in, mostly ga clay. I pulled 2 locked jeeps out with slick 33s, just needs a bit of wheel speed. But, im switching to mt's cause im mostly in mud.

I live in So Cal, so the ATW will be pointless for me. The only time I drive in snow is when I take a trip to the mountains. But, will keep them in mind when I move to a claimant where I will need to worry about the snow more
How are the ATW and the M+S different?

I've been reading through a thread on the St Maxx on expedition portal. People seem to be pretty happy with them and it sounds like they are a great AT, all around. The only thing I've heard negative about them is that they are heavy compared to other ATs. My truck is a DD and I am running 31"s on 15" wheels. I'll be going up to 33"s once I can get new wheels, since I need to get a wider wheel.

I think the deciding factor between the ST Maxx and the AT3 is the difference in weight. Seems people are pretty happy with both. According to Amazon (it's the only site that I could find all of the tires and weight info), ST Maxx is only 3lbs heavier than the AT3 and BFG ATs. I am running BFG's now that's why I included them in the comparison. That doesn't sound much to me. Am I wrong?

Nope three pounds is nothing, get what you want, and will work for and your needs... With that said I'm very happy with the ST Maxx and also love the AT/3 which is on the wife's highlander.. Can't go wrong with either IMO...

My buddy has the maxx on his 1500 and loves them. I have the at3 on my Toyota and they do good in everything I've been in. Rock and ice is out, never been in much of that

I am really looking at the cooper st Maxx tires, but can anyone tell me if this is a wise choice. I love the tires and want more aggressive all weather rain, snow sand tire. My concern is if I do 95% street driving is this still a wise choice of tire! or is it to aggressive? How do they do in the rain? Traction wise? Any info would def put me at ease. Am looking to get the tires this month before snow comes. Street tires are shot.

One can never have too many light bars.
Consumer Reports rated the discoverer at3s the best all terrain tire this year. But they also rank the Ridgeline as the best midsize truck so take it with a grain of salt. I'll ether go with Coopers or the Hankooks next year when I'm due for some new tread.

Maybe I missed it, but what size are you looking at and do you have a 4 or 6 cylinder engine?

The weight of the tire & rims will affect your gas mileage and performance. C rated tires (6 ply) are good for Tacoma's. E load range tires (10 ply) add weight and unnecessary stiffness to the tire which translates into a stiffer ride.

Realistically, what type of off-roading do you do? How much of it do you do? Do you need the more aggressive/heavier tire of the ST Maxx? If you do, get them. If you don't- but just want them, get them - just understand the ramifications of a harsher ride and greater mpg hit.

The ATP is made for Discount Tire by Cooper. It's not following or replacing the AT3, it's in addition to it... for Discount/American Tires sales only. They are slightly more aggressive looking.

Thousands of people are very satisfied with the AT3/ATP tires. They are some of the best out there. They were rated #1 by Consumers Report for AT truck tires.

Here is an off-road test of varies tires. The results: "The Cooper Discoverer A/T3 was the overwhelming winner. As the lowest-priced offering, it is also a genuine value." http://expeditionportal.com/where-the-rubber-meets-the-road/

Here is another article on tire selection for off-road. Lot's of good info: http://www.expeditionswest.com/research/white_papers/tire_selection_rev1.html

I'm looking at getting new tires. The 265/75-16 AT3 in load range C weighs 46lbs. The St Maxx doesn't come in a C range for that size. The E range Maxx weighs 54lbs. That's 8 pounds/tire heaver. FWIW the stock Tacoma tires are 38lbs. There is a reason the manufactures use such lightweight tires - because they want to maximize MPG and performance for advertising. I like the aggressive looks of the Maxx, but will probably get the ATP's - cheaper, better ride, better gas mileage, quieter, very good performance on & off road....

I'm currently running a set of 265 75 16 Cooper AT3's and they weigh in at 42# a tire without the rim. Its a 114T load range tire so its more like a C 6 ply vs. the standard P load! I got a 2016 2.7L 4 cylinder 5 speed access cab and I'm on the stock steel wheel. Doesn't have a problem with getting up and going with the bigger tire! The AT3 is a very good tire, great on pavement especially in water. Have had them off the road some and they perform well!!! I got the set for $504 shipped to my door from the discount tire direct store on eBay when they do the $100 coupon off of $400 or more!!! So 4 of these cost $604-100 instant rebate which brings it to $504 shipped to my door and it cost me $73 at my local tire shop to get them put on and balanced!

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I have the ATPs and I've been happy with how I perform. Can I hang with the guys on MT in thick mud, no. But for a DD & weekend warrior setup, they're great. Plus they were a great price. I haven't had any issues with balancing them.

I'm looking at the ST MAXX for my next upgrade (if I go skinny 33s). Otherwise, I may get toyo if I just want to get 35.

Lighter is better! That's a problem I've encountered - different websites list the weights differently. Moe, did you weigh your tires? Great deal you got!
