I have about the same mileage as Chris does with similar results EXCEPT that these tires have gotten really LOUD. For me, they are growling like crazy as they wear down. Local shop said they are cupping a little too. Still a good tire, but they are howling bad!!

What psi did/do you run in yours? Do you think the 7K rotation I did may have caused them to cup and subsequently roar? Local shop said they didn't wear particularity even either!! This could have been totally my fault for neglecting them...dunno.

Well, that couldn't have been it either. I was running 34f and 34r.

Oh well, just my bum luck, I guess.

Was changing the oil in my taco today and decided to dig out my paperwork on my Ltz's and see where I'm at on milage and check the tread depth. 31,350 miles and still have 12/32 left on all 4 tires.

After researching this thread, and reading a seemingly infinite number of reviews of the Zeon LTZ, I just put 'em on my truck today. They were fantastic on a short highway round trip today. I'm very happy with appearance, performance, and noise (non-existent beyond a standard tire) after today's trip. Most pictures and reviews I read were based on a larger wheel size and/or truck size. I have the Zeon in 265/75 R16, so my experience may vary slightly from most others, as it's a higher profile size. I'll chime in here when pertinent, but want to offer a different take on the Zeon based on the size difference.

I'm stoked as I'm finally building my truck up the way I've always wanted, and the Zeons are another step in the process. So far, so good. I was initially worried about a 10 ply tire under such a light truck, but with a camper shell, I think it's going to be OK. It'll be a stiff ride, but over time I believe it will be worth it. i'll keep you posted...

Thanks, Eric. As a fellow 1st gen'er, what kind of pressure are you running? I see Chris is at 34 front, 32 rear. The techs that installed mine put 47 psi into each tire! I dropped them to 37 front, 35 rear but need to spend some time getting a feel for them. I may drop that a little more given the stiffness of the tire and the lightness of the truck, but not quite yet.

    Chris - Still enjoying yours?

Quick follow up after driving a few miles on them (@ 265/75 R16):

I don't think 1st gen Tacomas care too much for 10 ply tires. It seems to take a bit more work to get that kind of weight spinning. With my automatic, I've lost a bit of 3rd gear oomph, and have lost about 1.5 - 2 MPG in stop and go traffic. I'm now lucky to get 16.5 MPG from a tank in mixed driving. I'm running 32-34 PSI in all four tires, so I may play with that a little to see how it affects mileage, keeping a close eye on tread wear if I do.

They handle great, though, and they're quiet at all speeds. I put close to 50 miles of gravel driving on them while camping a few weeks ago. They picked up a LOT of rocks that weekend, and after over 60 miles of interstate speed driving they're still holding onto about 75% of those. I had read one review that said they hold onto rocks really well, and so far that's been my experience. Maybe it's better to hold onto them than to sling them, though. It's all perspective, right??

    RIP Cooper Zeon LTZ's.

At 45,000 miles, 3 of them were killed by some road debris. Still had about 6/32 tread left. Whatever I hit, The rear tire held together enough to where there was no body damage, and it remained integral enough to get me safely stopped off the freeway.

So....To and this thread, this has been one of the BEST AT tires I have used. Wet weather is superior to the Nitto TG. Off road in the dirt out here in AZ, the tire is just as good as the Nitto TG, Yokohama Geolander, and leaps and bounds better than the BFG AT/KO.

Being as Nitto has insisted that they have redone their TG, although it has the same tread pattern, Im back to wearing a set of TG's. This being said, I would have gotten the Zeon LTZ's again (Also the Discoverer ATP), had they been availible out here. Evidently, they are on back order, and I dont have the time to wait.

It's time for me to replace mine. Not due to any issues that you had, just due to the damn howling and vibrating they are doing...driving me f'n NUTS! I was thinking of getting them again because I believe the issues I am experiencing was due to poor initial installation/balancing at the shop. You guys here have not had these issues, but mine have been poor, particularly as of late.

Wear and traction are second to none. I'll second your opinion on that! Just too much roaring and vibration. Ugh!

I still have about ~5/32" left with roughly 40K on them. Not too bad considering that I pull a boat most every weekend during the summer months...

Chris - what kind of deal did you get on the TG's? Just curious.

initial balance is key. have them road force balanced when installed and you should never have an issue.

    buy new tires yet ?

fwiw, the Hankook RT03 offers wheel bead protection.
    * not sure about their AT's tho' :notsure: but probably

I like my current RT03's better then my previous KMII's
    for almost every reason.
So much... that I sold off my KMII's with near 90% tread left.

IMO the RT03 is one of the best all-around tires.
and does well in most every condition.
They are not really a mud terrain tire.
Hankook MT stands for "Maximum Traction"
I like to think of them as an AT on steroids ;)

The RT03 commands good reviews and surpasses many tires
competitively. And cost less then most of the competition.

    KMII's are over rated IMO,
and my experience is they sucked in the snow, ice
    and on wet slippery roadways.
They did well in Moab tho' (mostly dry)

The RT03 is the definition of what a off road tire should do...
by offering the ride quality of an all-terrain tire with premium traction.

~dang ^ it sounds like I have an investment with them.
    But I don't... I just like them~
    :)

worthy of consideration... if yer in the market ;)

    ----------------

    in discussion of the topic...

    I never ran Coopers...
but muh buddy runs Cooper ATs for dd duty...
He hasn't said good things about them tho'
He complains that traction is lacking on the slick wet roadways
    and that they wear prematurely.
Says he's not buying Cooper's no mo'
