I love my truck and my car, more than I should -
The idea of having to replace them, if ever lost/stolen/destroyed, would be miserable.

Mostly b/c they are both MT vehicles and it took me forever to find them in the 1st place; both were used but in mint shape with a single prior adult owner who actually took care of em and I have continued to treat them very well/tweaked em just the way I like..

Insurance helps, been there - done that, it never covers everything

But as others have stated - at the end of the day, if no one got hurt, be grateful and move on.

I also second @saint277 sentiment - your truck/car should be paid off before you start throwing $$ at it like it's a stripper; it won't end well

After the first couple you get used to it, move on, and build and enjoy the next one.

Oh you might be right lol. Anytime we see a thread like this is usually after an accident so I just jumped to that conclusion

vehicles are another temporary outlet for all the hairbrained ideas i get.

my last truck, i only had for 2 years. rebuilt the entire front suspension, fixed the rear suspension, tuned up the motor, added a complete bonkers sound system. and then sold it.

maybe it's a good idea, maybe it's not. but it's going into this truck, and i'm gonna be happy with it until this truck ain't my truck anymore.

I’ll cry and then realize I’ll never be able to build another truck like it and give up. Probably buy something stupid I can’t modify like a prius.

It isn't easy. I dealt with a total loss 2005 Subaru STI that had over 25k into the motor. Made 416whp on pump gas and 506whp on C16. Fully built bottom end from Outfront Motorsports, rotated mount GT30R turbo kit, etc, etc, etc. I planned on swapping a 35R onto it and keeping it forever. Had some amazing races in it. Ran a 10.96 @126 at Fontana with a DA of 3k 85* temps.
Here's an old video of a pull when I first got the turbo kit installed. https://youtu.be/gn76YEoAflc
It is still missed, but not forgotten. There's 2 things that came from it though that changed my life. I got into riding street bikes (I couldn't afford another car nearly as fast and I hated the traffic where I lived at in California at the time) which eventually turned into riding track only. I live 10min. From a minibike track I'm a member at and 1hr. From a big bike track, so I ride quite a bit!
The biggest + of all is that I met my wife because of this accident that got me into street bikes. She had just started riding a few months prior and we met because of our shared enjoyment of motorcycles. We got married earlier this year and have been together for 8yrs now.
There's also another negative of it, and a huge positive of it but this is already long enough. Just wanted to show how something that seems to be a huge loss at the time can end up causing a chain reaction that changes your life for the better.

if my turd gen were totaled, i could easily move on to something else. i'd likely go back to a full-size. i'd look at the ranger too more out of curiosity than intention to buy. but who knows.

i'm not that attached to the tacoma, or any truck for that matter. but, if there's one truck i'd like to have back it is the ram 2500 5.9 cummins 5 speed MT. that truck i miss...sometimes.

moving on is what we all must do.

It sucks! I had a 2017 Mustang GT that I bought brand new in ‘17.. had it for years and poured tons of money into it.. wheels, tires, headers, tunes, race seats, engine work, blah blah.. then a 17 year old “didn’t see me” and turned in front of me and totaled both of our cars, oh and he had NO INSURANCE. It got me out of cars completely. I put so much time and money into that thing that it made me sick when it got taken away in the blink of an eye. Im just grateful that I hadn’t ordered that twin turbo kit that I’d been eyeballing

This is the correct attitude. ^^^^ As long as you are not injured or any one else, then you are good. Plus realistically there is new stuff available that was not on your first build. Keep moving forward.

I tend to get bored easily, so I mod them to just how I want them and trade or sell them anyway. Then I can start something new. I would do the same thing if it was totaled.
