Core / Hurst short throw shifter

That sucks. Replacing it with a Core shift kit?

I read about some issues with clearance in 1st,3rd and 5th. Has this been taken care of?

 

What issues? Care to elaborate?

 

I'm sure the new shifters come with the bracket the moves the shifter back about an inch.

 

What are you guys talking about? I've had mine for the better part of a year now and had zero clearance issues in any gear. Just the bushings wearing out a little prematurely.

 

It's a relocation bracket that puts the stick close to factory position making it easier to remove the consol. They sent it to existing customers at no charge.

 

Huh. I had zero issues getting my console in and out and love the position of the current configuration.

 

I believe some of the issues were the shifter hitting the console in R,1,3,5 and some guys had to trim some of the console. I also saw some posts about different breakages occurring.

I'm just looking for a better shifter feel than stock but i don't want to go through some of the problems associated with it.

Volcom, did ever fix your issues with the slop?

 

Yeah I ended up getting a replacement bushing from Core, after explaining my issue (had a couple inches of a slop while in gear), he made me a new bushing from a different type of material and it lasted for a good 6 months before any more slop occurred. I have a little bit of slop now, I'll probably hit Core up again soon and just buy like 5 more bushings to be made so I can swap them out when the slop gets bad. My first bushing went bad because I was re-learning stick and was slamming through gears trying to be a racecar lol.

 

I have maybe 3/4 of an inch of play front to back and 1/2 side to side while in gear on my truck. All stock at 8200 miles or so, seems normal so far.

I had a short shifter with upgraded bushing on my last wrx, i know the taco will never be anywhere near it but trying to improve the feel a bit.

 

Yeah thats about half of what I had before I got an upgraded bushing. In fact thats about what I have now, but I don't really notice it as much anymore

 

I just installed mine and it sounds like the tranny straining that just gear noise and the shifter not putting pressure on the gears. Not going to wear out the tranny?

 

No, thats just normal sounds that get muffled by the double layer on the stock shifter. All of the mechanical advantage is the shifter box, so your tranny lever gets the same force applied to it, but the shifter itself has the possibility of wearing out quicker.

 

It's just the noise you don't hear with a stock shifter - @VolcomTacoma is 100% correct.

 

If anyone is looking to get this shifter. Don't hesitate. I bought a URD shirt throw. And it is total garbage compared to this. I never would've imagined the tranny feeling as good as it does now. 10/10 I have had it on for a few months. Over 7k miles on it. No problems. No clearance issues. It's perfect.

 

Thinking about going in this direction over the UDR version. Folks still happy with their Hurst shifters?
