You're really "putting it into gear" as opposed to "kinda sliding the stick into the right gear position and assuming it's engaged".

Can you reuse the stock knob/trd pro knob to make it look OEM?

Yep, that’s what I did. Looks factory. I used the Scott Drake adapter. Read back a bit and you’ll find all kinds of info

Does anybody know if Core-Shifter has a torque recommendation when installing the rubber isolator kit?

I finally took mine apart last night to put it in and I'm wondering if I over-torqued the bolts cause I don't really notice much of a difference in feel or sound.

If there is, you're probably not going to get it from Core. I contacted them with a few questions including the isolator kit. The reply was basically "We don't recommend using this and you should just try it as it comes". Basically, "we have it because people asked but we don't recommend using it." Eventually when they stock the Core Shifter, I'll install it and if the sound is too much, I was thinking of trying some sound deadening pads like Dynamat on the stick itself to see if it helps at all. Core-shifter told me it wouldn't do anything as it needs to be isolated where the stick attaches to the shifter. Worth a shot (as I have some on hand) and it's easy to remove if it doesn't do anything.

I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing with you.

Instead of dynamat, you might try some actual lead weight down low near the connection? The mass of it might dampen out the noise better than the weighted mat? More weight would change the frequency.

There was definitely a point during our email exchange where I felt like the Seinfeld episode and was on the verge of getting banned. It was like George asking for bread.... just step away and leave. And so I did. I graciously said "great points! I'll just check inventory on your site. Sorry for bothering!".

Yep! Every time I think maybe I'm being too cynical, something like this pops up.

Have your money out, have your order ready, and take what they give you.:rofl:

I read through this thread before ordering, didn’t even bother to contact him. Just figured I’d get what I get and either be happy or not. I’m good with that going in to it knowing. Only problem I’ve had with it is the lower bolt started to strip at half way to torque spec. But again, I though fuck it I’ll just get a longer bolt and throw a nut on the other side! Shifter is awesome. Loud but awesome. Still wouldn’t trade it for anything. But also wouldn’t think about trying to contact the dude. I’m afraid he might make me send it back

For real... I made the mistake about asking for alternate hurst sticks. Don't even go there.

As far as the noise goes, I think the only way to dampen it is to install some form of isolator like the kit they offer. Weights, knobs, dynamat won't do anything. Think of the shifter shaft like an antenna. The gear mesh noise is now solidly attached to the ball at the end of the shiftter in the cup coming out of the transmission. The only thing in the way is the little nylon bushing. The shifter has some amount of resonance and the sound kind of radiates from the hurst stick. The only way to prevent that is to isolate it. I am sure that was the intent behind the rubber isolation in the stock shifter, but Toyota went overkill and made it sloppy. This summer I may play around with making my own version of the isolation kit. I think adding some teflon or nylon washers to the bolts and possibly some sleeves in the clearance holes may help. I may try some flanged plastic bushings as they are cheap and readily available. Then there is always McMaster....

Phenolic or urethane instead of the the rubber might help?

You are right about that antenna aspect. I was just think that the mass of the lead might change the frequency to something less annoying? A mass damper.

I'm thinking urethane will probably end up being best, but finding the shape I want is going to be the limiting factor. It will be tougher than rubber and prevent too much movement, but dimensionally more stable. Phenolic, at least what I am used to using (garolite, FR4 material, etc.), is too dense and would transmit vibrations. If I end up getting time to do this I'll definitely play around with a few options.

The one problem with urethane is that it is notch sensitive in softer durometers. The splines on the Core and bracket might split it?

Definitely possible. I'm thinking of something pretty hard though. Something up near 70-90A.

Finally got my adaptor made so I can mount my trd ball to my core shifter. Love it. Wish I would have bought the core kit sooner lol.

Anyone else looking for just the knob/handle? On the fence on ordering and don’t need that part- so you could have your choice at a discount.
