Bad news everybody, the B&M has larger threads than stock. I didn't measure them but they are larger

    Thanks!

That isn't horrible news as we could re-thread the knobs.

Can you tell if it is Science or Freedom Units?

What's the thread size on the B&M shifter? Is it the same as the Core shifter? 3/8"-16

No it is larger than stock. I did not have any tools to measure the threads, I am sorry about that

If anyone is on the edge of ordering this kit don’t think twice. Combined with the accumulator delete it feels like a whole new truck. Should have done this the first week I had it. The guides in the first post are invaluable.

Mine has been wobbling from front to rear at all times for the past few months. It happened gradually so it didn’t bother me, but while I was doing some recent wiring in the same general area as the shifter, I did the same thing you did and added Loctite and re-torqued. Has yours backed off again after the Loctite?

did you torque to 85 ft/lbs when you did? I'm just curious. i re-torqued to 85 one time, no loctite, and it's been solid since, 2 maybe 3 years since the re-torque.

So I originally torqued to the 35 ftlbs required in the instructions, but after it came loose I went further than that. Not sure how much, but more than 35 ftlbs. Not very scientific, but I figured it needed more than the spec if it came loose, and I can dial in more by feel than setting a certain torque and breaking something over-torquing it. If I had to estimate based on feel, probably between 40-50 ftlbs. At the end of the day, if it backs off slowly again, I now know what it feels like, and know it won’t fail overnight.

    Cool stuff

It was good after that but I think because of the way the trans vibrates and how the 2 pieces come together it will come loose again due to the lock washers grooving the metal ….

That was kind of my fear too. If yours isn’t giving you any issues after a year that’s something though. I think mine had play after about 6 months, though I did do a week long off-roading trip right after I installed it which can’t help.

    Oh man…
I’ve had mine in for a year with no issues. One of the threads started to strip when I was torquing it (probably only 10 ft lbs) so I stopped and have been meaning to go back in there with longer bolts and throw nuts on the other side. Hasn’t given me any issues though, so I haven’t…

It didn’t! I was just saying I probably jinxed it. Still holding strong. It’s funny… I know it should be redone right but by the time I work on everything else in the shop I look at what mine needs………and have a drink instead

If anyone is interested, I'm selling my core shifter. It was installed for only a few hundred miles. I loved how it shifted but the family complained about the noise it made.

Includes Hurst t handle and the adapter to use the stock Toyota shift knob abd boot in stock configuration.

Located in Estes park co. Willing to ship on your dime.

    Asking $350 pretty firm.

Adding to the above, also have one for sale still in box/never installed. $300 shipped to the lower 48. Sold my truck so no use for it now!

Apologies for the necro. I recently installed the core kit and I am enjoying it. I asked Chris about using a knob other than the included ball and got an interesting response. I want to return mine to a stock look since I'm still under warranty. He doesn't recommend using an adapter on the stock knob since there is a risk of the threads snapping. Has anyone snapped their hurst stick?:goingcrazy:
