there is a fitting at that base but thats a hose fitting for the trans fluid. the install is pretty straight forward and its not too bad if im being honest. core does package instructions and its pretty thorough. i will tell you this right now. do not let your apprehension dissuade you from not installing this shifter. if you are even in the market for a short throw then you owe it to yourself to get this badboy. its possibly the best mod you can do for the manual platform. ive tried em all too on when i had my 2nd gens. urd, trd, coupes trd special. this is the best. coupes is right up there. but this edges em out. trd you only replace the shifter unit. this one you replace the whole assembly.

if you like to diy your own mods and you have the tools, which again its pretty much just standard selection; nothing specialized, then i dont see it taking very long. maybe 1.5hrs-2hrs tops. that was casual, just making sure i do everything correctly.

np! tbh i dont remember much or any clunkiness at all. probably coulda been cause i switched out shortly after. less than 100mi on the odo. i can say that it gets rid of all slop that you may experience with a stock shifter. shifting is much more positive and engaging. every shift notches into place. the shift knob thats included is also weighted so shifts are even more buttery smooth. if this makes sense you will pick up some mechanical humming. it doesnt sound bad at all and in the kit theres an inner boot that he provided to be installed but i bypassed it; i reckon that alleviates the hum. i quite like the noise and once you get used to it you dont hear it at all. im not trying to make it sound like a negative cause its not, but just being transparent and tbh i noticed the same mechanical humming in my friends b&m short shift kit on his 2nd gen.

@fake4x4 the install is pretty straight forward. Just take your time. It’s an easy afternoon project. You might want a swivel head ratcheting head box wrench. I think I noted that in my write up.

Like @Xer0 SiN said, the zerk looking piece is actually a breather line.

As for clunkiness, the shifter improves that. However this is still a truck transmission so it’s not going to be as buttoned down as a performance car. That said, it sure feels like one when you get that nice new “snicker snack” when you engage each hear. You will love it if you go for it.

So I should be able to fit my stock knob if I order that adapter too?

only if it's a straight screw-on. no fancy bits, just a lock & jam nut.i have the one he linked above and now can screw on my M12 x 1.25 knob, yes. no clips on my setup.

What do you mean no clips? For the boot? If I keep my TRD Knob I should be able to clip to boot, no?

they are made to order. takes about 2 weeks. unless they are waiting on a Hurst part, which recently happened when they reconfigured the shaft bracket. you can always email Chris to find out, but he's a total misery to deal with.

Ordered mine today. Looks like they all take a couple weeks as they're built to order (no mention of out of stock at this time).
Can't wait. Ordered the white engraved knob but I'm thinking about maybe also getting the T-handle.

Does anyone have a video of the shifter they could post? Doesn't have to be driving maybe just rowing the gears

Hell yeah that's exactly what I expected from that shifter and more! I had a core shifter in my Chevy k1500 and loved it. Definitely have to get one soon. Do you think it voids warranty?

How much smoother is shifting? Anymore notchey/bumpy 1st-2nd shifts?
