Well you've heard of clutch slip which is where the clutch applied with full pressure to the flywheel on the engine when the clutch is connecting the engine to the trans. Slip gives you the situation where you give the engine gas and the rpms increase but your speed does not.

Drag is usually a byproduct of slip. But not always. Drag is when you disengage the clutch and it does not fully disconnect from the flywheel causing more effort to be needed to engage a gear or disengage a gear.

Yeah sometimes I think clutch drag but it's probably not.

Is anyone able to articulate the differences between this and the urd? The urd was a pretty good improvement over stock but the shifter is still my biggest gripe with the driving experience.

This is a solid one piece shifter and base the urd is just a modified stock shifter to shorter. I don't have experience with the URD one but I hear it degrades after time. I've had another core shifter in a different vehicle and it's 100% amazing hands down. Only draw back is the gear noise takes some getting used to

Around 2.6 qts, seems like a lot clings and hides in most trannies......but still need to have 3 quarts.

Core-Shifter is tighter/shorter than the URD. The re-positioning the half inch to the driver is very comfortable. Much easier install than URD.

The thing is damn noisy. It's loud. I've got S/T maxx tires and this is louder than they are. Fourth gear is the least noisy, 6th seems to be the worst. It's not just noisy, it's obnoxious. I'm not sure if this will be in the "Get used to it" category or the "slowly annoy me to death"

You get used to it. 6th is loudest because the output shaft on the trans is turning at its max rpm - making the most noise. The Core Shifter is all solid metal to avoid slop/play - so vibrations transmit easy. You could try a piece of rubber between the lever stub on the base assembly and the shift stick.

Would it be possible to wrap the metal with something that’s vibration/dampening like idk dynamat or some sort of sound deadening material?

I don't get it. I can barely hear the difference and its certainly not annoying.
About the only sound is a slight vibe occasionally only when stopped or sitting at a light if I leave it in gear.
It stops when you put your hand on the knob.
One thing... I did trim the secondary boot to fit tightly around the shift lever (trying to avoid saying shaft and knob in the same post, LOL)
It does have a distinct "snick, snick'' sound when you change gears but that sounds really good to me.
Maybe (probably) I have bad ears?

can confirm you have bad ears.

its ever so slightly less noisy with hand on knob. I have both boots on mine, i pulled the staples.

it sounds like a like a ridiculously small blower when you leg the throttle. Thats cool.

I think I will get used to it, did an hour trip in it and it started to be background noise

We know the Hurst shift knob is 3/8 on 16 for thread.

Anyone know if the o.e. shift knob in a 3ed gen manual is the same?

Far from a transmission expert but wouldn't the output shaft speed be tied directly to the speed of the vehicle regardless of what gear the trans is in?

Yes. But the secondary and output shafts will typically be turning the fastest in 6th gear and the motor will be the quietest. It is probably a combination of all that for the noise.

It sounds right up my alley, but I don't want the Hurst shaft or knob. If the Core folks ever get their head on start, I will grab one.
