So after driving a WRX and a Tacoma what do you think? I have a 2004 STI and I'm actually thinking of doing the opposite, ditching the car for a 2014 Taco... Probably a DCSB in Spruce Mica.
If you don't mind me asking why did you get rid of the truck?

    Hey Anthony
The car gave me a decrease in my payment amount, a decrease in my payment term, better mpgs, didnt use my truck for what I built it for and wouldnt have had the opportunity to for another few years.

The car is a ton of fun and I'm still maintaining good gas mileage. So far I'm very happy with my trade. While the truck was fun I just couldnt justify the extra money it was costing me and with my new job every dollar that I can save has the potential to be turned into several hundred dollars so the opportunity cost for me was just too great to turn down.

What is your reasoning for wanting the truck? perhaps I could answer some questions for you before you make your decision

    Would be nice huh.

I'll be buying one of these in about 3-4 years maybe less depending on my job.

Well there's a couple of things at play here. I'm tired of the STI... the power is addicting but it's a bit much in reality. It's got a Cobb stage 2 tune on it and a few basic things, so it's not the fastest in the world, but more than enough to get me into trouble. Plus, after 10 years the suspension is just obnoxious. SO rough and bouncy. I can't hardly use it on the highway without immediately regretting taking the car.

So what I've been looking at is a new 2015 WRX or a new Tacoma... The car has obvious bonuses, more comfortable, newer design, newer tech, and a bit faster. The Tacoma though seems like it has a lot of utility at this point. My family has a cabin in northern Michigan and I miss being able to go ride around the state trails up there. I am dying to get a Kayak and can't realistically carry it well with a roof rack on this car or get the car down some of the sandy state trails to get to the rivers up there that I want to go to. I also bought a house 6 months ago and I've noticed more and more that I'm borrowing trucks to do things around the house. In reality that'd be a very small percentage of my usage for the truck, but it sounds so convenient compared to borrowing all the time.

The truck won't really be a heavy-duty offroad rig. I have an offroad buggy that's reserved for serious offroading. Offroading a DD is just too dangerous and expensive.

Well.. If you are only going to drive to your family's cabin once every few months and you are only borrowing every now and then. IMO its not worth the extra money you are going to pay in gas. The truck gets okay gas mileage but not great and its a dog compared to your STI or even a wrx. It lacks power IMO. Not everyone will agree with me on that but personally I think it just doesnt have enough power.

If you are really set on wanting a truck for the convenience of hauling stuff around and going off road every once in a while a tacoma is a very nice truck to have. The stock suspension isnt great but that could just be being used to a $2000 fox suspension :p

Personally if given the choice and money wants an issue I'd buy both.. haha but really if you dont plan to use the truck that much I would stick with a newer wrx. But thats only my opinion based on owning the car for less than a week haha. In a few months I could change my mind but so far I love the car and I love the gas mileage I'm getting out of it even with my short 1-3 mile trips

I like your last point about "if money isn't an issue"... I'm kind of debating just keeping the car and getting the truck. The car is nearly paid off and in reality I could probably pull it off... Seems silly when I already have a Jeep Cherokee turned off-road use only that I've put about $7,000 into. I think 3 vehicles might be pushing it lol

I do have to say going from small "sportier" cars, I enjoy having my tacoma. Coming from coupe civic to hatch integra to turboed hatch 240 to 350z. I don't think it needs any more power at the moment but I do have v6 4x4. Sure I'd throw the supercharger on it if I had the funds but that's more of a fun reason.

I like having the extra room in the dc, with plenty of room to sit four people comfortably. It's not horrible gas mileage compared to 350. I'm getting 18 highway/some city where the 350 was getting 22. But I now don't have to use premium anymore.

And I have the bed now for what I want (hauling the motorcycle) vs needing a trailer. My payment did double but that's ok with a brand new vehicle for me than a ten year old car.

Just some other opinions out there.

Lol this one will be a little more relaxed for a while. Will still have mods but nothing as crazy as the truck lol.

The engines on these things are crazy and there is so much you can do but it costs a ton of money and then you have to get it tuned lol.

Gonna order a few things as soon as the bumper sells, I get my warranty back, and the guy I sold my suspension to gets it.

If you're really looking for cheap low hanging fruit when it comes to the engine you should consider a pro-tune. Even if you don't want to push any more power or boost you can definitely get a better feel out of the car with a good tune.

If you want to stick with off the shelf tunes and components a Cobb AccessPort for now with a stage-1 tune would feel great. No physical mods required... Change out the exhaust for a 3" cat-back with a 3" down pipe and you can go stage-2 which really does bring the car to life even more so.

Also, I see snow on your taco in the other picture. Don't be fooled by AWD and think you don't need snow tires. Even all-seasons with these wide wheels provide only moderate snow performance. If you get any real snow you should save up for a winter set.

I'm purchasing a cat back here sometime soon and somewhere down the road i'll get the Cobb AP.

and I agree, I'll be saving for a winter set of rims and tires
