Are the corner lights necessary? I don't use them at all.

It all depends just where you live if you have a safety inspection.

Most States if it is a factory light it must work.

Just what do you mean you don`t use them?

Corner lights don't light up the dark, I have my headlights on always and I have led spotlights on my bumper for night time.

Seriously :notsure:? Corner lights a.k.a. position lights, a.k.a. front markers are the part of minimum requirements for all cars. On you light switch you have three positions: Off - Tail - Head. It is misleading as "Tail" really means "parking" or "position". When car is parked at night at the side of the road (I thing there are very details about conditions in some writing) it must be lighted with all four corners. US requires front to be amber and rear to be red low intensity lights (in Europe front must be white). To do that you "use" corner lights - light switch in "Tail" position. While driving at night besides those "position" lights vehicle must use headlights to illuminate the road in front of the car. This happens when you turn the light switch in "Head" position.

That's the requirement. If your markers don't work that way, that means the truck is not "road worthy". I know, it does mean nothing in California (and most other states), but that how it is. In Europe such thing would not pass the annual safety inspection. And even it is OK at the inspection but is discovered during road control highway patrol it has to be fixed on the side of the road (like replacing a burned bulb) or the registration will be taken and the car will have to pass the inspection again.
