So, I've only owned my '99 for a mere 5 years now, so it makes sense that I'm asking such an obvious question  but what is the correct layout of the headlights etc.? See, the previous owner made a rat's nest out of the wiring with alarm, sat radio, CD changer, custom lighting, and who knows what else. Crazy extra wires all over the place in the cab and under the hood. But since the headlights always worked and the turn signals worked, I never bothered to mess with it. I've recently decided to replace the stereo and some of the interior, so I'm faced with this wiring mess. So...

As I'm diagnosing, I'm looking at the front end. The lights seem to be back to stock now and described thusly: headlights, bumper lights, and corner lights (next to the headlights).

When I click the headlight selector on the stalk once, the rear "parking lights" or just taillights come on, but nothing up front. One more click and the headlights and taillights are on, but no bumper lights or corner lights. When I hit the turn signal, the front bumper lights blink and go dark when I make the turn, and the corner lights do nothing.

So I'm just wondering, how are they all supposed to work, like when it was new?

Incidentally, the 3rd high stop light in the cap is wired into the left taillight, bottom left and top right if you're looking at the connector. The rear lights (tail, brake, reverse, turn) all work apparently correctly.

The corner lights should come on with the switch stalk in first turned position. They don't flash with the turn signal. The bulbs may be burned out......both of mine quit with in a month of each other recently.

As far as your cap 3rd stop light goes, that is how I have seen them wired.

1st click on stalk is for corner lights (aka parking lights) as well as tail lights.

The orange ones in the lower bumper are blinkers.
