I used about 3 3/4 cans on all the steel/frame related undercarriage components most prone to corrosion. I didn't put it on real heavy or all over like seen in some pics.

Just bought a gallon of corrosionfree to try. Been using Rustcheck for the last few years and holds up well except areas in direct path of wheel wash. Corrosionfree seems thicker and may hold up better. We shall see!

I'm sure most of these rust inhibitors are good for a short time. Just comes down to how often you want to keep repeating the job as they get washed off due to the type climate the truck is driven in.

Fluid film, simple cheap frame is still black 10 years on even in Maine. To make matters worse neighboring NH clears their roads with salt.

    Hey
Do you wait till you're getting to the end of your corrosion warranty... or start these applications with the new truck (mine's a 2021)?

I - a Northern Ontarian - use Corrosionfree, and it's held up very well. It is a stickier fluid so it doesn't drip in the driveway and as others have mentioned, it doesn't smell.

I will have a 2nd coat applied this year. The only complaint I have is that my hands get full of it when working under the truck. Otherwise I'm very happy with it, no signs of rust under the truck except for the leaf pack and a few other minor places the 16 year old forgot to spray it.

Do you want to protect the truck after it has started rusting, or before?

If you start within a year of purchase date, they will provide you their own rust / perforation warranty.

Imo, fluid film is initially cheap to apply, but it adds up in cost and labor when you need to reapply it every year. With cosmoline it may initially cost a 1/3 more for the product, but its one and done after that. Pay me now or 10 times later down the road.

Had my truck Krowned after three days of ownership. I now use CF and have done it twice using about 5 cans. Usually can buy it at Peaveys(old TSC) for 50% off at about $7 to $8 a can. Does a great job and doesn't smell but I put so much on that it does drip. The Krown kid scratched both headlights with boom sprayer. Won't go back.

I'm two applications into using it (18 months apart) and so far, so good. My only gripe is the smell, which lingers for a month or so.

I know this isn't a helpful post, but i'm so glad we don't have to put up with this shit in the south. Host of other problems, but we can roll rust-free!

You can still get rust issues near the ocean in the south.

I think they say you have an increased corrosion risk if you're within 5 miles of the water. However, the only people i know that have some rust issues are commonly backing their truck into saltwater launching their boats.
