    Hi everyone

I have about 45,000 miles on the truck. I live in a very cold city and salt is used all winter on the streets.

Should I be worried about this corrosion?

That's nothing structural and looks normal for an untreated undercarriage exposed to road salt

That said, fluid film will keep it from progressing, I wouldn't let it go unchecked unless you dont plan on keeping it long

Ya. Can’t beat getting it shot every year. I had my truck done right after I bought it.

I did 6 cans last year before my truck saw its first winter. Seemed to do well. If you are keeping long term, probably invest in a spray system so you can buy the FF by the gallon. A lot cheaper that way and probably easier to get good coverage. I think I’m going to go that route this year. I was in a rush to do mine because we had some early snow so just went with cans.

Best to use an under coat thats similar to fluid film every fall to keep the rust at bay. Knowing what i know these last 20 winters living in the new england, i hit my new tacoma with cosomoline. Hopefully i won't have any issues's for sometime.

If you dont start coating your truck soon, your truck will be a rust bucket in 2 years time.

Very normal for edmonton, did you have the frame corrosion campaign completed yet?

Once completed you gain 12 years warranty extension, so don't fret.

surface rust is unavoidable underneath if you live somewhere that had salt on the roads 5 months out of the year. never have been a believer in undercoating,
Maybe in the 90s or 2000s rust proofing was more necessary because of the build quality of vehicles in that period was pretty poor all around, I don't really see many 2009 ish or newer 2nd gens with a lot of rust on them. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're going to keep the truck for 20 years or something.

While your not likely to have a rust-thru issue with the bodies of these trucks...my 2001 tundra was still perfect till 2020, but the undercarriage was starting to show its age even though i fluid filmed it every year. Imo, once past 5 years if living in the rust belt, it becomes the responsibility of the owner to take care of the undercarriage of these trucks. Managing rust is a lot easier before it starts.

This is my frame maintenance regime that I use . The proper sequence is to degrease , wash , wire wheel , hand wire brush for those hard to reach areas, Ospho, Eastwood wire primer, Eastwood black chassis paint and Amsoil heavy duty metal protector. I also use Eastwood internal frame protector comes with attachment that fits in the drainage hole of the frame to coat the internals. You will need to 2 things in abundance ( 2 p ) preparation and patience.

98% of the work is removing the rust Ospho does a great job but still better to wire wheel to bare metal. Applying fluid film over rust your wasting time.I have been doing this regime to my frame for 8 years, I find I'm spending less time under the frame as those layers get built up. Amsoil heavy duty metal protector is a cosomoline wax that does not wash away. Fluid film by the gallon applied with an air compressor is good. Fluid film out of can is to thin washes away to easily. Once you have applied this do not wash the frame in the winter wait till spring wash the frame and hit spots were the rocks and debris hit the frame.

The USN 6P Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. My .02

Is that the recall where they removed moisture from the frame and sealed it?
