3 year later bump to show prices. A trusted, non-dealer mechanic replaced 4 belts (A/C, power steering, alternator, timing), water pump, 2 tensioner/pulleys, radiator flush/fill for $1000. 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty. Labor was about half of it.

Anyone else heard/seen of ebay sellers selling fake oem toyota parts? I remember seeing a thread about it somewhere. If I remember correctly, there were differences to look for in the plastic wrap and sticker for the part to tell if it was counterfeit or not.

I would hate to think I am buying Toyota OEM parts to then find out they are not.

I am not sure if anyone has mentioned Camelback Toyota Parts or not, but they have very reasonable prices for OEM Toyota parts and you know they actually come from Toyota.

I got some parts off eBay that looked questionable. The stickers looked different and the color of the gaskets (front camshaft and crankshaft) were different. Took them to a Toyota parts center to compare with geniune parts and they were definitely not the same manufacturer.

I'll post some photos of the differences and a link to the eBay seller soon. The good part was the eBay seller was really nice and refunded the parts I felt were questionable.

Yeah, it just takes a quick google search to see that ebay is full of counterfeit toyota parts, from lexus to 4runners. I am willing to bet half the time the seller does not know, or at least acts like they didn't.

Good for you they were willing to refund.

Sorry for the delay. Here are photos of the ebay vs genuine parts:

    Message from seller:

Hello, we source most of these parts from Japan and honestly don't have any control on how they are labeled or packed, but we can assure you they are all OEM Toyota Genuine Parts. Our manager worked for Lexus for over 27 years and believe us, he wouldn't let a non genuine part go out the door. Over the years of selling these kits we have seen all types of different packing come from Toyota and they do differ in some cases on how we get them here in the U.S. To give you a quick example sometimes we get the seals in bulk packages of tens (10) and sometimes we get them in individual packages. We regret that you have concerns, but at the same time acknowledge how the dealership world moves. These are your prices on the returning parts:

-2x Front Cam Seals. $3.98 each
    - 1x Front Crank Seal $4.81
    - 2x Valve Cover Gaskets $26.90 for the set
    - 6x Spark Plug Tube Seals. $13.80 for all 6
    - 16x Valve Cover Washers $14.00 for all 16

    Kind Regards,
    Toyolex Parts

    Hope this post is helpful.

Yeah.I was gonna do it myself. But a private mechanic up the road would charge me 225 bucks to do the water pump, thermostat, timing, and oil while he's there.so I'm with ya on that one.

Depending on what you have done.
Cost me around 1100 shown below with everything replaced by dealer that gives me a special rate. Will be different depending on the area
Some prices are for just the belt which can be done for around 400-500.00

    But if you want the
    Timing belt
    Fan belt
    Power steering belt
    AC belt
    Cam seals
    Crack seal
    Water pump
    Thermostat
    Fan hub bearing (Asian)
    Idler bearing
    Antifreeze

    It will cost more.

I’ll just throw my experience with my timing belt in the ring here.

I was originally quoted about $900 for a timing belt replacement from a local shop. I ended up getting the ebay kit mentioned on page 1 and doing it myself. For under $300.

It took from friday evening through sunday afternoon to complete. I wasn’t working on it the entire time (kids), and I purposefully went slow on the reassembly to make sure it was done right. At the time it was my daily driver and needed to drive to work on Monday!

If I were to do it again, I bet I could do it in a day.

:bananadance:I have to toss this in as a friend of mine has an Audi 2006 s4 with 85,000 miles and the timing tensioner is shot.

Apparently the timing chain is in the back of the engine in between the transmission and engine.

The front clip and engine has to be pulled to replace the timing chain and tensioner with around 30 hours of labor and the dealer costis 5000 to do it.

Got to love my toyota motor that much more.

I had an Audi A4 turbo as a second car 10 years ago, I WILL NEVER BUY AN AUDI AGAIN.
Spent 10k in repairs in one year after warranty expired.
So I don’t complain when I pay 1100 for a complete timing belt once every 100,000 miles. :)
