Hey all, quick question for the wiring pros out there. I swapped my prerunner to a 5sp/4wd a few years ago and have loved every minute of it. For all the ney-sayers out there, it was totally worth it: 1. I have the truck exactly how I want it 2. It cost me $0 after selling off parts from the donor truck.

Anyways, since then I have gone back to school and life has took me in a different direction that requires much more driving than I have anticipated. When I swapped the truck, I did the standard splice to park/neutral which has been fine till recently. I find that I need/want cruise control back and need reverse lights after a few close calls in parking lots. I'm also unable to get my plates in Tennessee due to CEL (that I removed) and the state mechanic is no help to make an exception even though the truck is MORE EFFICIENT and produces LESS EMISSIONS. I don't have time to work on the truck anymore than routine maintenance and was looking to get a ballpark for price of someone else to do the ECU and wiring harness swap. Anyone have experience with this? I have a budget for it but was looking more if someone had suggestions or friends to call in the Reno/carson city, NV (where I am now) area that could knock it out for me one weekend in exchange for some quick cash.

I've done the swap. Completed it to spec to my 04 EWD w/ all systems working as stock.

Except now you have a MIL and can't get a title transfer in the state of your choosing. I don't want to leave this sounding gruff, but why not put the time in to review the EWD for your year and engine and do it yourself?
I've heard Yotamasters in Corona, Ca may do it for you... ($$$$). Goodluck.

What does the MIL being on have to do with a title transfer ??

I have bought a few vehicles that would not pass emissions for what ever reason

Now being unable to pass emissions is a different story .

To the OP what you have is a major project !!

Myself to take on a project like that I would charge Time and Materials

Then you don`t mention the year or years .

The fastest option would be buy the ECM and Engine and Cab harness for the year you have

If you can find someone to knock this out in a weekend good luck

I know this rule exists in Texas, but I believe it is in all states and it is what License2Ill was referring too. During inspection when they perform the visuals if you have your check engine light on for any reason it is an automatic failure of inspection, and I believe that is required to transfer a title. Now on topic, OP if you truly don't have the time but you can afford it go for it, but it will be quite costly unless you find someone willing to charge you a low hourly rate like a friend. If you have ever done one of those puzzles where you draw a line between the two similar words you will be fine and I don't see it taking terribly long if you print out all diagrams and do it on paper completely first:thumbsup:

The struggle is real when tryin' to reconnect the back up lights from auto to 5 speed manual tran but it's doable.
let me get some pics and will get back to ya.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpgI'm sure see something like this on your swapped, first thing you want to do is assume the truck is an auto tran. Get a screw driver and put that triangle (silver plate) in back up position, unplug the silver plate to expose all the wires, turn the key in the on position and get a circuit tester and start checking those wires you will see there are only 2 wires that have power, one is your back up light cable and the other is your signals. Have the silver plate face you ( the side with the blue sticker) starting from your left the3rd or 4th pin(cable) on the top layer is your back up light cable in black color, now check another wire that does not have power and pick that one as your ground. Remove ( separate) those two pins (cable) from the housing, remove the key from the ignition and put the silver plate in park position, insulate the two cable making sure not touching each other and plug them into your back up sensor. If you do it correctly you should have back up lights when shift into back up position. It's not an easy task but it's not too complicate either, good luck and congrats for the swapped.
Edit- remove the key from the ignition before removing the 2 cables from the housing.
