I get that. Safelight doesn't have the best rep out there. I went with the Toyota dealer's recommendation which was Novus Glass.

Yeah I tried that. I do have comprehensive but here in Washington you have to pay your full deductible even for windshield. I could always look into lowering my deductible on my comprehensive which I suppose I should call Geico and ask how much it would increase my payments.

Always, always, always ask your agent to give you a quote with a lower comp deductible. It is generally very cheap to lower it.

Comprehensive is a much better deal than collision insurance. The rate is a lower percentage compared to average pay-out. Why? Because you are only insuring your own car and no one else's. With collision you are insuring everyone on the road regardless of what they drive, so the average is higher because of you being insured to pay off a Lambo.

Well, it didn't turn out as planned. When Novus glass submitted to Hartford/Safelite that I wanted OEM windshield, Safelite rejected the request. Their rationale was that since after-market windshields were available, OEM would not be approved. So, after a heated conversation with a Hartford claims lackey that got me nowhere, I cancelled the claim and paid Novus the $576 for the non-OEM windshield out-of-pocket. No distortion or flaws, so I'm not unhappy. But, I'm now looking at other insurance companies. Sheesh.

Just priced shopped around Denver for my 2019 Pro. Cheapest I could find was Auto Glass Express @ $415 for install AND calibration.

Most other places quoted me between $500-$1000.

Two windshields replaced on my 2020 Sport during the past nineteen months (lots of gravel trucks in my area). $300 total replacement cost (did not use ins) and no calibration was required. OEM glass breaks just as easy as aftermarket glass.

Rocks are terrible here in Phoenix, not sure who the genius was that decided to line the freeways with decorative gravel. I'm on my 5th windshiled for my 2019 Pro. Glad I bought glass coverage, one company must have disconnected the camera becasue they could not calibrate and had to replace it a second time, said the glass was too wavy. They got approval after that to use OEM. Another time I had to take it toyota for the calibration, they charged $425. Then I had to get reimbursed. So make sure they can do the calibration in shop before you select a place. Stay away from Safelite. They just replaced mine 2 weeks ago, I waited the 48 hours to wash my truck. I noticed water dripping on the passenger side floor. Took it back and they replaced the windshield again. After 48 hours leaked even worse. They tore a 1/4" chuck of the rubber seal on the cowl that sits up against the windshield right above the fresh air intake, plus they had the deflector tucked into the fresh air intake. Now they are saying it's not their problem and to take it to Toyota at my expense. So, make sure they take care removing and installing that cowl. I would even take a picture of your seal before they touch it. The crucial area to look for is the width and area above the glovebox.

Holy Jeezus... another good reason to stick to an older truck. I'm getting my 2012 windshield replaced on Thursday and the cost will be $195 including a new seal, installed. Maybe $210 with taxes?

I think I like my truck better every time I hear some story about third gens.

just got a 2020 sr5 windshield replaced 400.00 no recalibration, works great, not oem. Ok, the reason you get a code is because they use the new sensor that comes on the new glass and it has a different ohm value than the oem one and the computer recognizes it. USE THE OLD OEM SENSOR ON THE NEW GLASS.

I'm needing to replace my windshield on my 2018, and due to the circumstances I'm pretty sure the insurance company will tell me to get lost. (The inside pane is cracked, my own stupidity at fault...) I don't use the lane departure sensor and keep it turned off so I could honestly care less about calibrating it, just hoping this won't cost me a fortune. Any suggestions?

Anyone pay the ~$1k for the "diamond" glass or whatever from the dealership? I'm considering it. Comes with a 5 year warranty for replacements.

Any new car has more technology and some of that is built into the windshield. It's worth it if you can afford it, if not then its not. Also, why they have that coverage on insurance to cover these things. Range rover windshield was 1500 and my Nova was 150. But their is a big diff in those

So upon further inspection it is actually the outer pane that is cracked. So I tried to file a claim through Progressive, they use Safelite, and they still want $900!!!:mad::annoyed:

Ugh... I have the option to go somewhere else, need some suggestions please. NW Denver metro or foothills please.

Sure... but who is the genius that thought it was a good idea putting that kind of tech in a part that gets broken and replaced probably more than any other part on the vehicle? I'm sure the insurance companies love it. They like anything that makes a rate hike justifiable.

Don’t forget to go through a car wash after getting a replacement. Our last experience resulted in sitting in a puddle. They hadn’t fully sealed up the top corner.

Where else do you put something that needs the best visibility possible, shouldnt look odd outside the car, needs to be kept somewhat safe from the elements, and roughly needs to be cleaned as often as the driver needs to clean his windshield?

I was quoted ~700 yesterday, 350 just for the recalibration. My insurance didn't cover it without the deductible... I upped my Insurance for an extra 10 bucks a month and will be calling back in a week.
