There's no way it's an OEM rack for that price, an OEM rack alone is at least $500 brand new. I would try and find out what kind of rack they are going to use, because a lot of the aftermarket racks for our trucks tend to start leaking again much faster than an OEM one. If your truck is stock and just a commuter it might not be so bad though.

Yea I'll find out. Oh yea for sure they're not OEM, hands down. But I don't think the other shops were offering OEM racks either. The shops that did tell me the brand were all the racks I've seen online, which were around $200-$350 online, non OEM.

The rack and pinion shop has good reviews and are local, been in business for 30 years so I thought I'd take a shot. I use my truck as a commuter mostly and the occasional off-roading. Nothing crazy, pretty much stock, except for a 2in front lift to level out the truck.

    How did this end?
Is there a feller on here tuning up racks? I am at the point where the leaking needs fixing not topping off. Always aiming for OEM.

Sounds about right if it’s from a dealer using oem parts. Everything has gone up lately from parts to labor.

Is there a reason people don't rebuild these racks? It looks quite simple mechanically.

My previous owner put a new rack in, not sure where he got it. How firm should the steering feel, that is, effort at the wheel?…

It's it OEM? If so it'll say 'Toyoda' (with a D) on the rack. If it's OEM and not leaking I wouldn't worry about it. If something's wonky with the power steering then I'd be looking at the PS pump.
