I think it's a Tacoma, let me go check again...
*Cracks knuckles* Where do I begin?
Exactly. I'm currently in college and frankly I don't have time to do much offroading so I found that a 2wd is plenty for me. Everything has its advantages.

Dash light says Auto LSD after you press the button. How fast do the wheels have to spin for this thing to work? With a real LSD, tires simply grip with no spin.

I understand the frame possibly needing to be replaced. And I am glad your getting it done at Toyota's expense but why in the World with 23,000 miles would the shocks, struts, control arms, sway bar links, and brake lines need to be replaced? Age?

Thank you! There are an awful lot of negative SOBs on here. Yes, I bought a 2WD Tacoma when I would have RATHERED a 4WD, but as a man with 2 small children to provide for and a job in which I don't make a lot of money, I have to pinch my pennies. I made the decision to go with a 2WD over a 4WD because the only ones for a comparable price had 100,000+ more miles. This was in GREAT condition (checked out by my mechanic) as long as all the issues in the undercarriage were fixed. They are being fixed at no cost to me, so I think it's a great deal.

No one has asked yet if this is a 5 lug 2wd Tacoma or 6 lug 2wd (Prerunner)? The Prerunners can be converted to 4wd but it's quite a bit of work, I don't think the 5 lugs can unless you really chopped it up and solid axle swapped it. Either way you don't want a dealership to do it (if they even would), that would cost you tens of thousands I'm sure.

The dealership will not do that at all . You would have to do it after you get the truck back and do it yourself or a custom shop . When I did mine I had $2000 in parts and sense I'm a mechanic for a living I just did the work myself you can technically have it all done in one solid day

Right there with you. I also purchased a 2wd and would have preferred a 4x4 MT, but sometimes we gotta do what we must. I may trade up later in life. Who knows. But for now, I'm loving my Taco! Enjoy yours! We're lucky enough to be in these trucks when there are still so many who cannot afford one! If no 4-Lo, we just gotta make it happen with what we've got :mudding::burnrubber:
    Best of luck! :)

The OP lives in New England not no snow Texas. Not having a 4X4 truck in an area that gets a ton of snow makes zero sense.

How was the end result? Smooth sailing or you run into hiccups since the install?

I'm wondering if it would make things any less expensive if, in a case like this, if one was to install a 1st gen transfer case since they are mechanical, maybe less circuitry and stuff to deal with? Personally I would much rather have a mechanical transfer anyway rather than this "unreliable" 2nd gen thing.

New England weather. It's a 2009 and we have such crap weather around here that, because of it sitting so long, the whole bottom had corroded. The body itself and the motor were perfect though. So it just came to me getting them to replace all of it at their cost, which I did. Now, I basically have a brand new truck

Dealerships wont do want you are asking no matter what,as they are not allowed per their Insurance. No dealer would even consider it.Nobody is trying too be negative here, its just that living where you are, most would not have even considered a 2wd.Save your money, then sell your truck and buy a 4x4 later.

I wouldn't know first hand nor do I have a link but I've read on here where others have done it with some success.
