Being that its free, ABSOLUTELY! Worse comes to worse, and you can just chop off the cap, add some roll bars, and have a nasty trail rig!

Either way, if you decide its not worth fixing up, you can scrap it and still make $$$. Engine, Wheels and tires, electronics, etc. can be sold. Take what's left to the metal yard.

I think you will be putting a lot of money into something that you will have a hard time selling in the future, with a salvaged title. But it would be fun to do!

Wow, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Salvage in NO WAY means worthless. To most INS companies, Salvage = cost to repair is 60% +/- the value of the vehicle.. so you're saying that 60% of 20,000 which is hmm..$8-9,000 of good condition parts/vehicle is worthless?

    Get your facts straight, "bro"..

Good question, if insurance has totaled the vehicle then its title is no good and most states will not give you a registration.

x6! Trail Rig is the way to go for sure. It's free so spend some of that cash on lift and tires and put the rest in the bank.

depending on the insurance company, yes you can

    ^ this

your friends dad needs to insure with a different company

    ^ this again

Insurance can vary from state to state - but here in CA, you can get comp & collision on a salvage title, you'll just get paid less in the event of a loss. Like said previously, some companies will, and some won't.

Oh, and on topic, I say go for it! It would make a fun project for sure..

Yes you can get full coverage
on a salvaged title vehicle, you must have the insurance company inspect the vehicle and then they can insure it. I know because my Camry was recently totaled and I was considering doing the repairs myself and asked the insurance company if I could get full coverage on it again after the repairs were made and that is what they told me.
    So Krimson you are WRONG.

Oh yeah I say go for it, I think it would be fun. Put a 6 inch lift on it and drop a v8

Jnoley...that depends on the company also. Most of the time, companies are ok with a verbal statement from the insured that the vehicle has been repaired and it is road worthy

I can confirm this to be true too, that was my experience. Once my car passed inspection by the WSP and was issued a rebuilt title, meaning I could register it again, my insurance company provided me full coverage for it sight unseen.

I was going to post the cookie monster icon, but apparently I can't on the iPhone =/

Thanks Brian. I'm no expert, but years of writing through 15+ insurance companies = a little experience =)

    i say get it

who says the body has too look as it did the day it did in 2005
just beat the cab back in to shape enough to get a new windshield in and replace all the glass that broke and beat out the dent in the bed and throw a taillight in and drive it

then you got a new-ish truck with low miles that you dont have to worry about every lil scratch

The A and B pillars are busted. You are totally screwed if you roll it again. That's why we are saying either drop the top for a halfyota or do welded tube frame.

One thing that no one pointed out: you can bury yourself with this project if you don't know what you are doing and/or don't have the ability to take the dedication. No harm in selling parts, but if you have the know-how or have time to learn, there's some real interesting potential. Just don't restore it- it isn't a classic yet and it's kind of silly when you could be doing a more fun build up.
