I’m simply being a smartass. Of course I know they aren’t the same. I’ve never stated such. Simply stating the benefits of running a cheaper oil that meets the requirements of Toyota for typical 5k intervals that many are sticking to anyways. Sludge in any Tacoma engine will only become a thing if you let it because of poor maintenance intervals. No lies in this simple concept. Are you ready? Here it is:

    -open your owners manual.
-Read said owners manual and find out what oil you engine requires.
-put said oil into your engine and run it to whatever interval matches your vehicle use criteria.
-check your oil level throughout the interval.
-change it on time when you reach your interval.
    -quit overthinking engine oil.
-enjoy your Tacoma longevity and engine reliability for decades to come.

Run exclusively on whatever oil was cheapest/on hand at the time:
98 1st gen 2.4: 305k miles before the frame rusted out.

07 2nd gen 4.0: 260k miles being used as a work truck to this day.

17 3rd gen 3.5: 33k miles with no oil related issues.

Oil seems to fall under the Princess and the Pea concept. "I use brand A, and I will not tolerate anyone who doesn't agree that it is the best."

Me too though I wasn't too thrilled to find out Toyota switched to 10k drains to save a few bucks. Honestly these new cheap things have me worried a bit. It's like cheap tires... They work... But... Maybe...

LOL I don't even care which brand it's this new trend of tricking people with lower end product like "cheese food" or how in Germany they now sell "synthetic technology" to fool people into buying inferior products.

Even Rotella gas is in on the game its a low end syn.

Agreed. Have a buddy who buys used tires to save himself money. They’re on a vehicle that his 3 kids ride in daily. Not the brightest, but he more so lacks money/budgeting common sense. Tires are something I’ll never skimp on. Shop around for the best deal? Sure. But never run some questionable tire that’s already been on another vehicle for thousands of miles. Some people are simply just that stupid.
