On a naturally aspirated, non high performance engines like Tacoma's, differences will be negligible at best. Someone needs to send their sample to Blackstone to prove it.

FYI UOA only shows wear metals, fluid contamination, and remaining fluid life (TBN/TAN) the other aspects of performance require you to break apart the engine and rate them. I used to run side/side comparisons on deposits and sludge and you could see the difference.

BTW I'm one of the people that actually does look for the best performance gas =)

Costco gas has 5x the additives. Now if they did this for their kirkland engine oil I'd be all over that too (Though I made enough of my own Dave's custom formula of 5W-30 before I left to last me several years though hehe).

Right and is a UOA not a good indicator of engine health/oil quality for the average driver in an “average” engine? Pretty good indicators of how you can expect the oil to perform over future intervals? Folks realistically are not going to tear apart their engines to compare and contrast properties. These are Tacomas we’re talking about here.

Nah. You’re simply piggybacking someone else’s post because you have brought little if anything to the table factually.

It's mainly for oil life and to indicate any serious problems (like silicon would indicate coolant contamination) or abnormal wear (copper, lead, iron ppm). Mainly commercial vehicles use it to maximize oil drain. You would never need it as you do 5k drains unless you suspect something is wrong.

The stuff I did was to see how long we could make an engine last so we tore apart a bunch of engines from a junkyard to find what killed them. Paid SWRI a boatload of money to do a CSI on engine death and the we tried to find the chemistry to prevent those failures. Kinda fun for a would be gear head if I didn't have a chemistry degree.

That sounds pretty cool. Over the top for me personally lol. I’ll keep chugging along my 5k OCIs worry free.

But is mobil1 better oil? Mobil1 at one time used a group 4 base, after they lost the big lawsuit they went the way of most others, using a group 3 base.

I think the best off the shelf oil is Penzoil Ultra platinum. But as others have stated, the Tacoma engine is a low stress design, making high-end synthetics a waste of money.

In fact I'm going to stop using my fancy once a year oil, and go to this kirkland oil 2 or 3 times per year(or every 5k).

There was a Gas thread a while back and a lot of people shit all over Costco gas quality as compared to "name " brand Top Tier gas, said it didn't mean much that Costco was rated top tier. As for myself I trust Costco over about any other large corporation when it comes to quality products.

We did internal tests and it was comparable to our top tier gas. Least that's what our fuel additives group said.

I should say this data is probably 5 to 6 years old. Do you have a link to the fuel thread?

One of the great things about our motor (2.7L) is that we have years of data points in the form of company trucks.
Heavy usage/borderline abuse, 10k+ service intervals, etc. Sticking with the 10k interval with whatever inexpensive (but toyota approved) oil should easily yield a trouble-free 300k miles.

Sludge is practically non existent with modern synthetic oils (even though most synthetics in US are Group III hydrocracked), if you don't over exceed service intervals. Deposits are mostly a concern on GDI turbocharged engines.

Starting to sound like a broken record...
Any proof or facts or logic you want to interject with?
