In the US pretty much all gasoline comes from common refinery sources. The only thing different is additives. Costco probably has a contract with one of the big oil companies.

I work for Costco, they do flow tests and replace the filters regularly every couple of months.

It is a very big thing there for pump maintenance and keeping the members happy with the gas.

FYI Costco says their stations get around 5x the number of customers a normal station will get in a day. My Costco gets 2 delivery trucks per day on a slow day, quite a few more on busy days.

We just received a letter from Costco about 1 or 2 months ago informing us that they are upgrading the additives in their gas to make it more comparable to other premium brands. Good news I guess, depending how you look at it.

I never put it in my Taco but wife puts it in her RX330 all the time and it seems to be OK.

Last time I drove my Costco they were getting the tanks filled from a Suncor truck. So I will save the 7 cents a litre over the Petro Can across the street getting filled up by the same truck..

you don't make it more pure, the purer the gas is the faster it burns. The additives slow down the combustion process. It's like having wet wood to burn. But it's true all gas comes from the same refineries, and after the semi's fill up, they just add the additives which could be like 1 gal concentrate to the whole tank. If you want more mileage just learn to drive better.

I used to buy the 'cheapest gas' (Costco and ARCO) but in the past year, when my mileage dropped 1-2 mpg and I noticed they both had the 'Contains at least 10% Ethynol' sticker... I switched to Mobile and Chevron... mileage went back up to normal... then more recently it is back down, even using the 'good gas'... So, I just don't know or think it matters. I was hoping the new spark plugs would help, but today's fill-up showed me getting just 14.6 mpg (city & Hwy.)... used to get 16-17.

Actually not all gas is the same. I went to the same gas station for YEARS and once I found out they water down their gas, I switched stations and my truck started running ALOT better.

Im weary of gas stations now. I only go to Bradleys, safeway, and king soopers stations now.

Costco says as of June, stores in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Utah are now adding 5x the EPA minumum recommended level of detergent. I don't know how that compares to the Top Tier gasolines tho.
