I use many kinds... including Pemex in Mexico... but often Costco. Never a problem in my three Tacomas over their 240,000 miles.

I am talking about a lot of Pemex and a lot of Costco gas... nothing wrong with either. I also always use regular (87 octane here and in Mexico)... with a rare premium fill up if I am going over mountains with a load.

What about truck stop gas? Flying j or love's? I put the cheapest gas I can find because that's all my budget will allow. If not I would be using chevron or shell.

I buy my gas there every week. When I need gas closer to home I use Sunoco, mostly because it's cheaper.

There exists a perception that ARCO gas is somehow inferior to other brand gasoline because it is cheaper. With regards to proprietary additives such as Techron, this is true. However as 05Moose pointed out
The real reason ARCO is cheaper is they do not accept credit cards and have not done so since the 1982. This allows them to sell it to you at a lower cost.

Many people do not realize that when you are a merchant and you want to accept credit card payments from customers, as a merchant you would pay a merchant discount rate usually it is 2% for Visa/MC.

As an example the merchant keeps $98 for every $100 in sales transaction fees for each card swipe. The merchant who chooses to accept credit cards, will in return charge YOU the customer a higher price to compensate for the fees.

Guess who wins? Visa/MC wins! I believe that even your bank that issued you the card looses because they have to pay a license to use the VISA/MC logo and Interchange fees to process payments.

Last year Visa made $729 million in a three month period!

Hopefully somebody learned something from that....

    Okay :sorry: for the rant.

That seems like a great idea!

I use Costco gas - they're price competitive in my area. I was told that they put it out for bid as far as who supplies in what regions. I love Costco, never gotten anything from them that wasn't good plus they stand behind to make it right if something goes wrong/bad.

Gas attendant in my area told me that the gas they get comes from Marathon and supposedly Marathon is owned by Chavez out of Venuzula so some think buying their gas is "fueling" Chavez' reign. I don't know if that's true but I bet if you looked at who had "money" in the other oil companies, they wouldn't look too good either. Exxon's profits are obscene and I won't buy Exxon even if I have to drive farther or pay a penny or two more.

I was told that the only differences in "name brand" gas is that some do have certain additives and if used consistenly over a good period of time, it MIGHT make some difference.

I use Costco and Safeway gas and have never had a problem. In fact, the only time I've gotten bad gas in the last 10 years or so was from Shell. However, I've used Shell gas since without a problem.

The way I look at it around me the Price difference between Costco and Chevron is maybe $.07-.10. Meaning anytime i feel up I only save $1.70-$2.00 Per tank. THats savings doesn't mean enough to me to have to wait in the long ass line at Costco to fill up. And Also I feel Chevron is better gas.

Actually, Costco has a reputation for requiring suppliers to tool up for major contracts, then when negotiating the next round of products, dropping that supplier, leaving them with VAST excess capacity and killing them after the fact.
Ironically, I buy my Techron bottles by the six-pack at Costco.
    Good stuff.
