when gas was at its highest $/gallon last year i was buying mostly from an independent that was the least expensive. not sure if it is considered top tier, i doubt it. occasionally i would buy from a shell station that was usually the next least expensive.

i noticed my MPG's dropped but thought some of that may be related to my driving and change over to winter blend. i also noticed that sometimes my truck seemed to struggle starting. nothing like a really prolonged cranking over but, not quick either.

as the cost of gas decreased i began buying from a Chevron, plus my credit card also offered a cash back at chevron. within a couple tanks i noticed my truck started easier and run better. my MPG's ticked up a bit too. i only ever run 87 octane but i'm convinced chevron is a better fuel.

COSTCO, 87 octane, about a solid year with this V6 4.0L. No issues.

Costco does 99% of everything else right, from optical to meats to housewares to wine/beer/liquor to tires to electronics to clothing to in-store pizza/hot dog counter.
I can't remember the last time I tried the Kirkland™ store brand of anything & didn't like it.

Argument by inference isn't as good as a petroleum laboratory test but I see no reason to think they would be undershooting or sandbagging the quality of their gasoline.

    COSTCO ROCKS.

Only thing my truck has really ever seen is Costco (85) gas or Chevron on road trips. no issues to report here.

I primarily fill up at Costco. Why? They have an attendant that checks the pumps every 30min/hour for skimmers. The volume is huge that gas constantly cycles through their tanks. It’s always cheaper. If you go during early morning or late evening, there is never a line.

Right on, They absolutely get their gas from the same refinery or terminal.

Costco almost exclusively since the gas prices jumped, after the events of two years ago. It was $4.09 for 87 this week at a Costco in the San Diego area.

All gas comes from the same depot in San Diego. Maybe Chevron and Shell, add their signature ingredient to the tanker load, but it is all the same 'Top-Tier' gasoline. My Tacoma does well on it, no different than other California brands, (but not as well as Pemex gas in Mexico, which has no ethanol and gives me 1-2 more MPGs)!

Good point, massive volume means high in-ground storage tank turnover rate & fresh gas.

At least in my area, the COSTCO gas station has their stuff dialed -- super well organized, break-away hose connectors in good shape, emergency stop buttons prominent yet well protected with bollards, clean cones and spill kit buckets at the ready, driving surfaces clean enough to eat off, nary a leaf or wrapper in sight, attendants helpful if needed but not nosy or too folksy. If they have all that dialed, stands to reason they would have a reliable, good-quality source of gasoline dialed, too.

If they don't have it at Costco, you don't need it.

Top Tier Gas - (discriminating engines demand this stuff!)
Military Grade Aluminum (ever notice they never say who's military?)
    Essential Oils (essential to what?)
3 months salary for a diamond - (hats off to the genius at Debeers for coming up with this eternal "gem")

    Anyone sensing a pattern here?

It's just marketing man; it's always just marketing!

Haven’t had issues with costco gas and been filling up at the same one for 10 years. But logistically the only refinery nearby our Costco is chevron. Which would explain why it’s the most expensive costco gas in the area.

And the $1.50 Hot Dog with soda.

No problems with Costco gas. Also, the Costco by my house moved/remodeled the gas station to 16 pumps. Driving through that parking a lot is a whole different ball game.

    None.
Costco is almost always the cheapest on a 600 mile trip that I do 3x per month. Gas Buddy will occasionally help me find something cheaper.

    Never a problem w/CostCo gas …

The Costco closest to me doesn't sell gas, but the BJ's does. It's almost always the cheapest around and I've had no problems running my Tacoma with it.

The rotisserie chicken at Costco is better though.

The chicken is a loss leader to get people into the store. That's why you have to walk through the entire store to get to it.
