This morning I was at Costco gas (Nevada) and saw that the gas tanker was there getting ready to fill the tanks. I also noticed that the flammable placard on the truck read 1307. Gasoline placard is 1203. Placard 1307 is "Rigid Vinyl." So I asked the Costco attendant that was there, "Hey you better check what he has in that tank because the placard is not gas." The attendant said it was an additive that makes their gasoline "top tier". I thought this was strange and wanted to see if anyone else has heard of this? Why isn't it delivered already with the additive added? Just curious. Thanks guys / gals.

Rigid vinyl isn't a liquid or gas soluble, more than likely just a driver that pre-tripped his trailer wrong and a gas attendant who wanted you to pump some fuel or leave.

Hmmm, shows 1307 as a flammable liquid Xylene

Just did more research....1307 Xylene is a hydrocarbon with 8 atoms that contains an unsaturated aromatic ring structure, plus two additional carbon atoms. Essentially benzene plus two extra carbons. In a refinery, Xylene is valued as a source of octane for gasoline blending.

Just wanted to see what are pumping into our tanks.

Yes, the placard itself is made of a rigid vinyl.

Ive worked at a gas station for over 15 years. The process of ordering, filling and delivering the fuel in the trucks is more complicated than you might think. Zero chance a truck with something other than gasoline is going to pull up to a station and drop the wrong load in the tanks

The attendant had no idea what additives are in the fuel or how it gets delivered. His job is to keep the wash buckets full and call 911 if anything catches on fire

That's why we stayed at TW , you folks are SHARP! , and BTW never ever fuel when the Transport is dumping fuel , it stirs up all the dead fish in the bottom of the Tank Farm.
They also heat the fuel , Pilot got fined millions for heating Diesel Fuel to increase the volume at the pump , smart money would fuel at night days after the Transport left , you can call BS also.

Toyota recommends (not requires) Top Tier gas. Top Tier gasoline meets a level of detergents not the minimum government required in gasoline. Go to Toptiergas.com and check what stations meet the standard. There are many brands. Added to the truck at the refinery.

Costco used to put stickers on their pumps that they are a top-tier gasoline.

Costco mixes in their additives at each station to make them top tier. I'd imagine they get delivered via truck.

I mostly use Mobil and Citco gas although I do rarely buy Costco. My guess is that more than half of the stations are meeting Top Tier standards.
