Assuming you have a 1996 tacoma, you do not have the same truck as me even if both are capable of rwd.

Once again, debatable. I've taken my prerunner with stock sport duelers in 4-6 inches of unplowed snow up a hill without traction control kicking in. No problems. I'd call 4-6 inches more than "nearly any amount".

I think we've learned in this thread that everything is debatable. Seatbelts are amazing, some wish they weren't there. The internet is amazing, some wish it wasn't there.

Wouldn't a stock prerunner drive the same in snow as a stock 4x4 taco that's not in 4wd?
I still don't see how anyone can think its better... or how this thread got so long...

I have a stock PreRunner Sport with stock tires and live in Nebraska with some snow. I have not gotten stuck YET. I am NOT stupid to drive in DEEP snow and expect it would be as good as a 4x4 Tacoma.

Most of you guys seems to bash PreRunner Taco but you need to know its limits before saying it is no good. It is MORE about the driver than the truck.......

2nd Gen Tacomas are purpose built for the snow; 1st Gen Tacomas are not.

In extremem circumstances, sure, it is more driver than vehicle. But that is an overstatement when just driving down the road or trying to get traction after stopping at a stop light on a patch of ice.

Anyone on here who wheels every day, and my grandmother with no more experience than driving her car daily will do the same thing at a stop light on an ice patch, accelerate lightly to moderately depending on slipage. 2wd vs 4wd is the defining factor here, not the driver.

This kind of logic always blows my mind.

Many people have driven 2wd trucks in some pretty sketchy situations. Congratulations. guess what, 4wd would have worked better.

I've driven our old chevy celebrity FWD piece of junk through some nasty blizzards out on backroads messing around with friends when I was a kid. It barely made it out alive. Any one of my Pickups would have very obviously out performed the little car. So is it a valid point that the car drove through deep snow on a remote wash of a road, therefore it's just as good as a pickup?

The relevant point is that your 4wd tacoma is not the same as the first 4wd vehicle (whatever that is). As I've said before many times and since no one likes to read around here I'll say it again. There's more to vehicle capabilities than just how many wheels have the ability to receive power to them. It makes sense, you do not appear to have the ability to understand.

Here's another mind blowing experience for you...put on your thinking cap. The quote I was referring to said he NEEDED (NEEDED incase you missed the caps) 4wd to make it in snow with stock tires in 2wd. So I said that I did not need 4wd in a good amount of snow going uphill. So I'll translate that more for you. He said he needed it, I said I didn't. How is that mind blowing?

You should be able to answer your own question about the snow if you took 2 seconds to read the thread title.

Look here for some more examples of what a prerunner is capable of: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/144329-prerunner-thread.html
