I don't see Toyota scratching the taco anytime soon.

I've only had mine for a month but have always known that the day I bought a truck, it would be a tacoma... "Scratch" the fact that they (in my mind) are the most appealing trucks out there. They are built like the fleet of the company, we all know that. Ford bailed because of what they are doing with thier eco boost and dodge scratched because it couldn't compete. Dodge's market is Oversized/flash your junk/ make a lot of noise redneck boys trying to prove a point. Nissan is the only player left in the market but still doesn't compete.

I knew I wanted a truck that would last. I knew I would only need the 4x4 on weekends down to the lake. I knew I would haul occasionaly and wanted room for four passengers. Also, I knew I did NOT want to drive a tank... And I think many out there will agree with me.

It's not going anywhere soon. Toyota rules the market.

I love seeing this cause.....'Merica....enuf said! :oldglory:
but I am of the opinion that smaller is better,( unless you need a full size behemoth) and would love to see a 1st gen size 4cyl TDI hilux, and/or 2nd taco (not the 2nd gen hilux body...its alittle fuggly...) but our american 2nd Gen... i.e. my truck, with a 5 or 6 cyl Turbo diesel....and a solid front axle/locker option, but not mandatory....
the taco shouldn't be going anywhere.... no matter what it's called....

    Yes.

I like the size of my DCSB. I have a 6 month old son and he has to have a car-seat in the back anchored in. Smaller truck and this would not be possible. I also wanted a good quality truck that I could tow-haul with but not get 12-14 MPG which is what I would probably get with a full size. Also with the mid-size Tacoma is much easier to maneuver in traffic- parking lots- etc.. To me if someone wants a smaller taco get a gen 1. You can in most cases seat 3 to 4 adults in a DC with out issue. I really enjoy the 2nd gen hope Toyota makes them for years to come.

First gens suck. Too small, of you can't park a 2nd gen just give up your license right now.

hummmmm i wonder could the death of the ranger and dakota be the cause of the crazy resale value of the tacoma? And for how long will it last? also I can say i could have gotten a ram for less then my tacoma i wonder if the price will hurt the tacoma?

ranger was actualy a pretty decent vehicle...but became too small (if only in styling) for the market

    the dakota was a dodge...

the reason full size trucks are cheap is the huge rebates...and it kills resale in the 1st few years. lack of huge rebates is part of what makes tacoma resale strong

I will have to age with the majority here. I feel like the Tacoma is a staple of the Toyota name. dropping the Tacoma would be worse than shooting yourself in the foot...it's more like cutting off your balls. it's a whole lot harder to produce future generations with no balls than it is with a hole in your foot.

I like the idea of fitting four (or sometimes five) adults in my truck. I also plan to have this truck when we finally get around to having kids. it'll be nice to have the extra room for the carseat, and the back door to find the crap that falls under the front seat.

I like fitting, although tightly, in my standard sized garage. and being able to fit in a normal parking space.

I can agree that we should be getting better fuel economy. I say make a few more changes to the body, but keep the same frame and give us the engine that the FJ and 4Runner share.

The compact size, simplicity, and reliability are what I appreciate most about my '93 Toyota pickup. Momma nature and her rust gremlins are what I dislike most.

Not all people want a fullsized truck. I love my smaller truck which can still haul things and be used as a truck. Plus 22mpg+ is a bonus

Sorry, I didn't read every post so I might be repeating something. I can't think of a single American make mid size truck that was a good seller. If it weren't for the American full size trucks, the American makes would be all but extinct.

If the mid size truck should go away then we're all screwed because Toyota can't sell tacomas fast enough. If the Tacoma is the only game in town, prices would surely rise.

I would NEVER own a ranger, Dakota or Colorado. I WOULD however buy Tacoma after Tacoma after Tacoma. Toyota knows they are the undisputed kings of the mid size truck market.

Face it, it is obvious from the posts here that everyone has a different opinion on what they want/need/have-to-have in a truck. This being said, that is the EXACT reason so many different trucks and styles are made, to cater to the demands of the consumer. Hundreds of thousands of different trucks are made by all. They can't please everyone, so they design based on what their market surveys tell them. Demand induces supply. Basic economics. while TW is a huge market, we are but the tip of the iceburg of all the pickup truck owners in the US alone.

I think Toyota and Nissan will always have a small or midsize truck. They kind of started the whole trend towards small trucks. They do it better than anyone else.

The Ford Ranger was a good truck, they just stopped updating it after 1993. I wish someone still sold a compact truck that was cheap and good on gas.

    . . . ^ ^ ^ . . . Make the Tacoma the Gen 1 size ... with a 4.7 V-8 ... :burnrubber: ... with a functional hood scoop ... :D

And make all this available in a regular cab with a short bed ... but this will never happen ... :(

PS ... And while wishing ... have the TRD S/C option on the 4.7 ... :D

I think Toyota and Nissan will continue to make midsize trucks. Both companies sells more of their Midsize trucks than their fullsize counterparts. I wouldn't personally get a Tundra or a Titan, they to me seem not up to par as the other 3 fullsize trucks.
