Only seven (7) more days to go. In exactly one week, it will be all over (the Mayan-related predictions) or all over (this world).

I think we can safely rule out a collision with a planet at this point (none could possibly get here in time), but scientists are now reporting yet another really huge asteroid or comet on a potential collision course with Earth - arriving in a few thousand years.

Of course, it's fairly common for smaller objects to hit the Earth. In 1992, a Chevy Malibu in New York was totaled after being struck by a small meteorite. These objects, however, don't pose any significant threat to the planet (Chevy's obviously don't fair so well though).

Well, this is it, guys. Only a few more hours until Dec 21st. It's supposed to be all over sometime within that subsequent 24-hour period (no date following it).

As was addressed in a similar thread, The Mayan calendar is based on the solstice, not any "leap year" The Mayan calendar ends on their date of 13.0.0.0.0 which corresponds to our date of 21 Dec, 2012. It has nothing to do with leap years or anything like that at all. As was mentioned before:

Man, this is a surprisingly hot topic on the internet and elsewhere. I started this thread last month on a lark after reading doomsday stuff elsewhere. There's been a couple more threads here since and this one wasn't the very first (there was a discussion about the Mayan calendar last year). Wonder why this particular prediction has garnished so much attention.

Anyway, I've been trying to figure out something unique and memorable to do. I could tell off all the moderators here at midnight. Pretty hard to effectively ban someone when the world is over. If nothing happens tomorrow, do you think they'll understand it was just an end-of-the-world stunt?

My neighbor, who claims he doesn't believe, has already headed for his cabin at a nearby lake. Of course, can't expect much more from a Silverado driver.

By the way, the weather here today is horrible - cold, rain, and strong gusty winds (doors & windows rattling, etc). Perhaps the worst I've seen all winter. Related? :D

On a side note. The calender had to end somewhere. I doubt a thing will happen. I do believe In a climate shift but that's another story lol.

They're worried about nut jobs who think it's going to be the end of the world.

"Additionally, rumors connected to the Mayan calendar predicted end of the world on Friday have also surfaced," he added.
He noted that Twitter was lighting up with posts with sentiments like: "Friday would be a great day to go out w/ a bang."

^^ It's kind of a shame they have to even worry about that (end-of-the-world nutcases), isn't it? We've been mostly joking about it here, but some wackos are quite serious about all this.
