My 2017 Tacoma is the best vehicle I’ve owned. A few issues and fixes, but enjoy the ride every time. Plan to keep it for many years. Folks need to enjoy the 3rd gen’s as there will never be another like it.

Liked how the 3rd gen Tacoma looked more than other offerings, so I leased it sight unseen and absolutely love it. Everything I needed/wanted and nothing I didn't. All I did was sit in one to check my comfort level with adjusting the seat and that was that. If I wanted to go fast I'd have bought another V8. I'll get back to that in a few years when the kids grow up a bit more and free time creeps back.

It ain't perfect, things annoy me with it from time to time, but it checked most of the boxes I needed. I knew that not test driving one was a gamble, but it was one I was prepared to take and thus far I regret it 0%. And if I did, good news is that it would have only been my fault so the blame would've been easy to go around.

Love the 3rd gen? Great. Hate it? Great. Good news is that the magnitude of someone's disdain for their vehicle has no bearing on my level of enjoyment with mine.

I didn’t like my 2022 Limited at first cause I wasn’t use to all the technology. Hell my last new vehicle was an 2002 Yukon, it had power window's and I thought I was royalty. But I figured out the technology for the most part and turned some crap off. All new or fairly new vehicles are computers on wheels anyway. It bothers me the tranny is sealed and can’t check the level, but so many vehicles are that way. I hope to put several hundred thousand miles on my truck cause I keep vehicles till they decompose. I love my Taco !!! And I love this TW forum.

Honest, reliable Tacoma, with a V6 motor. High step, low roof, unapologetic truck:

    Helluva run.

That's my feeling as well. I was going to keep running the 2008 for a few more years, but when I learned the facts about the '24s, I figured I'd better get the thumbs out and get a '23 before they were all gone.

It always behooves me when people complain about a $40,000 workhorse of a truck. I buy Tacomas for reliability and because they fit my budget. If I wanted speed, I'd buy a Cummins Turbo Diesel and if I wanted tons of space I'd buy a F250. But I bought a Tacoma because I love Tacomas. The reason I think Toyota didn't do much between the 2nd and 3rd gens is because Toyota didn't need to do much: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I love my 3.5L V6. When I want power, it always deliver, but I also know how to downshift. For comfort, I drove this truck 2000 miles from Michigan to Utah when I first got it and my back and legs never got sore from being in the seat. I'm exactly 6'0" and have plenty of space above my head and in front of my feet. My truck's not lifted, but I always feel like I'm climbing up into it (which is a good thing). I wheel up to 3 rated trails around Moab and have no plans to add extra armor or lift my truck. Aside from a mini mod here or there, it's stock and doesn't need much else.

I test drove a 4th gen recently when my truck was in the dealer for the rear axle safety recall. Yes, the 4th gen is quicker than my 3rd gen and rides more like a sedan, but I believe the 3rd gen is the perfect balance between old school and new school. One of the highlights of that day was watching the service tech drive my truck around front and park it in front of the waiting room. I was like, "Damn. That's a sexy looking truck. And it's mine!"

I don't just love my truck, I loooove my truck!!

I just got back from a trip to Virginia. 750 miles each way. This truck is hand's-down the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. 12 hours down, 8 hours of work, and the next morning, a 12 hour drive back. Mileage averaged 24 mpg, with some amount of stop-and-go, especially up through Maryland. That's better than my 2.7L 2008 Tacoma got. I had to stop and gas it up when it hit 1/2 a tank, because 4 hours was long enough to sit in one place. I really like this transmission, and the cruise control is a real treat. Man, I love this truck....

#1 the reason most seek out and start going to Tractor/lawnmower/motorcycle/vehicle forums is to correct a problem hence, they are already pissed off. 46 years of owning/driving vehicles and this Tacoma gets more compliments than any of the many, many vehicles I have owned.

Do you all ever feel like 90% of the public is just miserable all the time? No matter what is going on, just overall unhappy.

No doubt. I've run into people in my life that simply put, HAVE to complain about something. It used to be exhausting but as I tell my wife:

Who cares. Let them grind their axe and just move along in the left lane to pass.

I guess even Toyota puts out a lemon from time to time, but I've owned nothing but Toyota 4x4 trucks since 1982 and I'm only on my third one as I write. If my second one, a 1994 SR5, had not rusted out due to the east coast love of salting roads, I would probably still have it.

I agree. I do a yearly, sometimes 2x a year, round trip from NY to S. Florida. I'm 6'2" and 300lbs and have no problems getting comfortable in my 2022 TRDOR. We do the drive straight thru also just stopping quick for gas and to eat. My 2015 Chevy Silverado was more comfortable but I really had no reason for a full size after I sold the towable RV and bought a motorhome. I wish the Tacomas were flat towable so I could leave the Wrangler at home when we go camping in the RV. Other than that I love everything about it.

Has anyone ever noticed (maybe just me because I'm a weirdo) that it sometimes takes a while to become "attached" to a vehicle? Like you get to a point some months after buying it where you start to think about naming it or just become comfortable with owning it and thinking about owning it for a long time???? That didn't happen with my Tacoma. I was attached on day one and started dumping an embarrassing amount of money on "Farkles"....mods. Seat covers, blackout kits, cargo nets, fancy mats, etc.. Historically that would have taken me a long time with other cars I've owned. And that's really weird because I've been driving since 1977 and I've owned about 30 new vehicles and a couple of used ones. Yup, addicted to car payments, but that's another story.

It just connects with me for some reason. It's comfortable, has the tech I want, it's quiet and strong enough for me. And it's a Tacoma and I know it has resale value like no other if I did think about trading it later on. No noises, no issues. Better MPG than the sticker, but I drive like an old man anyway. Love this truck and take care of it like I do.

Agreed, this is my first Toyota truck. And I must say they are a different critter from the Chevy’s I’ve owned for most of my life. Now I’m getting all kinds of stuff for it that I would have never done on any vehicle I’ve owned in the past. Bed step, bed stiffeners, Weathertech mats, Modesta glass coating on the exterior paint ($$$$), cool radio knobs and looking to get other mods for it too. As far as the technology in new vehicles, I’ve turned some of it off. It’s a catch 22, there is so much technology in vehicles now that they have to add more technology to help with the distractions caused from the technology already there. Haven’t named her yet though, lol.

Hey I was a Weathertech mat fan for years until I just got hooked on Husky liner x-act contours. Cheaper, soft rubber and excellent! I liked the Weathertech, but they're hard and the edges curl after a certain amount of time.
