You seem to be a very intelligent, hard working person. Weigh the pros and cons and then make your decision. I think you will find the cons far outweigh the pros.

Patience is your friend. You will pat yourself on the back if you wait on a better truck/deal........or kick yourself in the backside if you rush into a bad decision.

Have you considered selling your old 4x4 and adding the cash to your current stash and buying a lower mileage truck?

Good luck with your search for the right vehicle.

That shake could be a lot of things - but my money is on the wheel hubs. Those BA tires aren't helping. I doubt new rotors will help. Get him to at least come down on the price enough to get the hubs replaced.

If he's firm at $13,500., he'll laugh in your face at an offer of $11,000. Look for something else, why do you what to inherit this guy's truck problems for over 10K?... move on and shop around some more.

All double cab Tacos are 6cyl.

    .
IMO ... too many "unknown history miles" ... and with "some issues" like you stated ... and "too expensive".

If you can take your time ... wait and find a good one ... then you will be super happy ... and not just content.

Never rush to buy a vehicle ... better to cautiously pass up 10 good trucks ... than to get really stuck with 1 bad truck ...

Having a mechanic doing a complete check of the vehicle is always a good idea too.

    I would also pass.

While I respect that you don't want debt/payments, if you paid $13k up front and financed $4-5k, I don't think that would be a bad move at all. It would bump you up in terms of the truck you could get, and the monthly payments would be super-manageable.

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
My daughters 2012 Tacoma, double cab, short bed, has a 4 cylinder engine.

That's what size engine it came with when it was purchased brand new, back in August of 2012, driven off the lot from the dealership.

So yes 'some' double cab Tacoma's do come in 4 banger's.

I would be patient and definitely shop around as others said. I almost bought a 2011 with 30K more miles than my 2012 for the same price. Something better will pop up

Only buy 08 and up if you are hellbent on a 2nd gen would be my first piece of advice for you. Vibrations could be anything, carrier bearing, unbalanced driveshaft, bad wheel balancing, spacer lift vibrations. It's all open game. Watch for frame rust, surface rust is okay, but if it looks excessive definitely keep on looking for another one. As long as you only want to street drive the truck you'll be in good shape, if you decide you want to drive it like you stole it off road, you'll be in for a rude awakening regarding all the weak points these trucks have. Be patient, and search on local Craigslist, autotrader, and search on the classifieds here. Best of luck in your searching and if you do end up getting one, welcome to the Taco crew.

I highly doubt the shakes are from the rotors? Is there a "pumping action" in the brake foot pedal as you step on the brakes???

Either way, from the way it sounds, I WOULD NOT purchase the vehicle!!! And, as people have stated, if you have 13k "in hand", put that down as a HEFTY down payment and you will have your " newer" truck bought off within a year! Just my humble 2cents on the matter!

Happy Wheel'n on whatever you decide to eventually get :mudding:

Unless you can determine exactly what is causing the vibrations (at speed and during braking) I wouldn't buy the truck.

Last thing you want to do is pay higher than KBB value for a truck with 200k+ miles on it that ends up needing repairs.
