I brought the truck in this morning because it has vibes around 55-70mph.
I wanted tobget it road force balanced. Which they did, however they said it still shimmies at speed. I also had them check everything from bushings to bolts in the front end just incase something was loose from the frame replacement. Nothing was loose.
These are non hubcentric aftermarket wheels. Would hubcentric rings make a difference?

    Issue #2
I went to change my fog lights last night and the drivers side socket was burnt looking with a little melt. Im going to try the other bulb and see if it still works but wtf causes that?
Ill be looking for a new h10 socket to wire in for good measure though.

They might be crappy wheels or one got damaged. Have they always had a vib? Did it start right after some work was done on the truck?

Usually a burnt socket is due to a bad connection. Usually cleaning it and making sure it has a tight fit will do, replacing it may be better as long as the replacement isn't crappy.

I had a vibe issue like that and nobody could find the cause. Felt like an out of round wheel or unbalanced tire. I'd get a re-balance and the vibration would return within 100 miles
Finally a local tire tech diagnosed the problem as coming from running on bad rear shocks. Didn't feel like soft or worn to me but it was enough to cause a pattern of skipping wear which was not very noticeable till you put a straight edge across the tire.

Solution was replace the rear shocks and new set of shoes....Ouch!

Wheels and tires are brand new as of 2 months ago from discount tire. The tech stated everything was within spec and not out of balance.

These were put on when i had my frame replaced along with brand spanking new 5100's.

I feel like the socket issue happened after a hard rain a couple weeks ago. Thats when the bulb stopped working. Its kind of hard to have a bad socket connection when you have to snap the base into the bulb. I traced the wire harness last night and all looks normal, no cracks, splices or tears in the harness.
Ill test with a voltmeter to make sure it is still good before moving forward and maybe find a way to seal it better from the elements.

    Ill look into that.
I made sure it was a hunter machine with the proper adapter. Even though it was at the dealership.

I'm having vibration issues with my Explorer after getting new tires. They keep balancing them, there's always one or more out of balance, it doesn't cure the problem. One tire was obviously out of round so it was replaced and that helped, but still have a vib. They're cheap tires (Centum SK73 I believe) and may have some kind of defect.

I don't know what kind of bulb it uses, but tail and turn bulbs snap into the base and I find burnt contacts all the time.

Don't assume that the dealer balanced your tires correctly. I had my truck in for service and the dealer said they could swap my tires over to my new wheels. The tech did not keep track of where the tires came off so they were put back correctly, and did not even balance the wheels after the tires were installed. Truck was unsafe to drive when they gave it back to me.

Yes hub centric rings make a difference it is how the wheels are supposed to be centered. Seems to come up every week someone purchases some after market wheels and or spacers which are lug centric and go chasing a vibration issue for months to find out the cause is lug centric.
