Door edge trim would be better.

Yes. Silicone is ok when parts don’t move but it usually only ends up sticking to one and not both and is a pain to remove and reapply. The door edging will protect the tubing and still allow serviceability. More finicky to get the hole size right for a tight seal but you get what you give.

I doubt a bead of anything that you'd put on with a caulking gun would make a difference. A heavy bead of black RTV might do some good, but you'd need to let the vehicle sit for a day or two to let it cure, and you'd need to re-apply it any time you wanted to move the hose much, which could include just replacing the air filter or checking it for dust build-up.

There's apparently some kind of heavy duty pluming grommet (pretty sure the original creator of this concept used one) that fits the hole well, but I couldn't figure out what/where to search to find one online or what to ask for at a plumbing supply.

Door edging is definitely more solid. I just couldn't find a version that flexed enough to fit inside that hole (and didn't feel like putting in the time to cut the channel sides into short enough segments to fit well enough on the curvature for the hose to fit through the hole that I had cut.

Try looking for what’s called a spud washer. They’re used on the overflow of tubs and come in a variety of sizes.

Just an FYI, if your setup is too rigid, you'll crack the firewall. The engine moves under power, hence running the silicone piece through. For me I have aluminum tube all the way through with rubber edge trim on the hole.

And now you see why several people select the spectre duct instead of a rigid length of aluminum pipe. So much easier to deal with. :D

How much more interior noise is there really?

Anyone notice degraded airflow from A/C?

there was some a/c airflow issues but those were solved with the extra holes in the side of the cowl and a shield between the two intakes.

It's a little louder in the cab, but it went away over time or I got used to it. No diminished A/C function.

I set mine up with an air dam to separate them, and drilled additional breather holes - I have no issues with the A/C. I also don't notice the noise unless I am hard on the throttle, which happens more than I want to admit to.

Looks good though I suspect the door trim might last longer.

I might be. I may just use some door screen though too.

got all the pieces in. Gonna try again on Sunday. Hopefully the 3” will clear the ABS lines.
