I wonder if that small of a screen will restrict the flow?
I thought about using a screen of some kind but I decided to challenge myself and design something.

I think this can become a product that people will be interested in. I am too busy these days to finalize the design and get some printed. This might be a good winter project!

Ya I was wondering about flow as well. I might also just skip it. Add some extra holes for better breathing and be done with it. Others don’t have any covers and are doing fine.

Just go to home depot and get a section of gutter screen. One edge is pre-bent and fits nicely over the tab on the HVAC intake.

Considering some of the leaves, pine needles, and other debris that's come out when I change my cabin air filter, a screen over the HVAC intake wouldn't be a bad idea even without the engine intake relocation. It might lead to more junk getting sucked into the engine airbox (I'm assuming most of what falls into the cabin filter box happens while I'm parked).

That's why I printed a screen for my intake too :D

I just used hardware cloth over the A/C intake, and a piece of Kydex to act as an air dam to separate the two. The intake itself has its own filter and I haven't seen anything in it, even though I had a bunch of crap in my cabin air filter at the last oil change.

How did everyone mount their air dam? Dpele has the plastic to get some bite on. I’ve got a perfect sized piece of aluminum and was gonna use some self tappers and aim for the holes in the bottom. Might be kinda loud though. Maybe just glueing the aluminum piece in would be better?

I'm mad that you made me go look up pictures from two years ago. Mostly because I have to look at my functional but ugly attempt. This was prior to my move over to Spectre duct.

lol, sorry to make you relive old nightmares. Those are self tappers as well into those two little flanges? Did you bend them for a better bite?

Yes and yes. And even given that I didn't go to the extreme of setting up a complete cover system that FORCES air to be retrieved from the sides instead of from everywhere, I do not have extra noise in the cab that I am aware of, and the A/C has no issues with breathing I can find.

I second this. I used it to cover all the holes in mine.

I formed some of the leftover gutter screen into a piece that slipped over the end of my intake.

Dude... you really should think of selling these. That's pretty cool.

Was looking to put a snorkel on my 07, but i would much prefer this. Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread. Every page was a revelation.

Anyone want to help me put one of these in? I live in a condo complex so "no working on cars in the parking lot.":rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

If you were local, I could do it in my driveway. You'd just need to buy the tube and elbow.

None what so ever!! Had mine for two years now, river crossings with water coming over the hood, tons of snow in the winter, still going strong!!

I literally started my truck the other day as my shitty gutter dumped water straight on the cowl. Zero issues.
I've been running it since March of Last year with no issues. Even with ice and snow on top of my entire cowl. The cowl has drain holes on both sides of the firewall that the truck can pull air in through even with the entire cowl covered.

Same as the last couple posts as well, had it for a little less than a year, I drilled a 2" hole in the passenger side for extra airflow and water drainage. I have loved it so far and have had it in some pretty heavy downpours and no issues so far. Where you drill the intake hole into the cowl is great cause your cabin intake is right there too. so unless you are getting water in your cabin you aren't getting water in your intake.
