I did however drill extra holes in the sides of the cowl, but my intention was to allow for better drainage, not more air flow

Yea the noise isn’t bad. Distracts me from my loud weatherstripping on my windows. I was almost certain i lost some power after this and before i drilled the extra holes. 3” pipe to 4” elbow. But probably just my mind playing tricks on me

Did mine last night. Only issue was I had to cram some rubber weatherstripping around the pipe, even though I used some rubber trim around the edges of the hole because when the engine is started the pipe would knock against the edge.

I see no reason to cut anymore holes on the edges of the cowl panel, there are 2 large cutouts already and I am not running fender liners so those holes are open to the outside anyway.

now the ultimate mod, build a cowl over the intake for the Cabin filter... would keep things even cleaner, though WOT might get a bit loud in the cab.

im curious if the engine filter is any cleaner with this mod? i change my filter maybe once a year :anonymous: but i'd be curious if this mod keeps it cleaner since technically its exposed to less dust.

I added the mesh to the top of my cabin intake, but I literally don't hear the engine intake much more than a subdued whuuuump at WOT.

Yeah I don't even notice the minimal extra noise anymore. If anything, the engine just sounds a little cooler lol

Getting smogged today, so pulled it out and put stock air intake back in. When I get home, I'll throw it back in, throw the stock one up on the shelf, and be good for several years.

It does in CA. I showed them when I dropped off my wife's car the week prior. They said it would fail the visual. No biggy, I passed, and its back in.

    Exactly what I did

I just opened my hood and the tech almost immediately said it would fail the visual because of the cowl intake.

My bright blue elbow is obvious so I pointed it out.
He laughed and said no we'd have to fail you, you need a carb certified sticker. When I went back the guy that smogged it, got out a light and inspected the shit out of my truck too. Again, no biggy, I passed and reinstalled it.
