How did it work out? I tried the silicone thing but I still got some popping sounds especially when it was cold out.

Frankly I am trying to chase down pooping and creaking sounds daily. I actually returned it. I used 4” hole saw originally, went with 4” pipe through the cowl. My cut was a little over with wobble and such. It was fighting ABS pump lines, wire harness and supercharger intake offset that also made it tight in that area. No doubt this looks clean, but it then required more holes and mounting hardware and then another T-bolt clamp to it. By the time I just passed the cut with RTV and cut tubing then jammed it through, the fit was snug and rattle gone. I had a lot of rattle from broken wiper cowl clips more than anything. It seemed like more money and work for the same end state and so I sent it back. I agree with you though that this looks clean and appropriate for the task.

Just to reduce noise in the cab via the cabin air filter opening. Most people use aluminum but I just used a piece of sheet metal and lined it with Noico insulation to help with the sound. I used some screws to hold it into place

Wasn’t easy due to the angle mis-match, however it came out pretty decent

I like the use of the little silicon sleeve at the end. What length/diameter did you use?

    It’s 3” x3”

you can see it mates to the intake manifold that I attached to the cowl

How are you liking it attaching to the cowl this way? Any vibrations?

So I went ahead and did this, but made some tiny modifications.

My first attempt was with a silicone elbow 4" to 3" reducer into a 3" aluminum pipe that I covered in deadening/insulation. The problem quickly became apparently as I only had a 3" hole saw that was metal rated, and I couldn't even get my drywall/wood hole saws that were bigger to start biting into the metal, even just for a one time usage. This meant that while driving, when the engine flexed, the intake flexed, and when the intake flexed, aluminum scraped on sheetmetal (I couldn't make the hole big enough for both trim and pipe). I put in an air break, but I did it from the bottom up vs from the top down. I did that because a) I mostly keep the AC on recirc, b) if I need to really get on it, I want the intake to steal as much air as it needs to feed the engine.

So I thought, well, I'll just use a dremel to relieve it. After going through two stone bits and getting very little progress, I went ahead and tried another route. I got a section of spectre duct, same as what I used in my F150 intake mod I did when I owned it, and lo and behold, it fits well when it's all the way compressed. It's basically a plastic and metal spiral tube at this point, with a rubber boot in the cowl area to hold it in place. It's messy with the gorilla tape, for the moment, but I'll clean it up later with aluminum foil tape.

    why not use this
    https://www.spectreperformance.com/8148-air-duct-mounting-plate

Like several others in here, I used the 4 to 3 silicon elbow, connected to 3” aluminum pipe, connected to 3” silicon tube connected to the air duct mounting plate. No metal touching metal and no chance for noise. And looks pretty clean.

Because in using that you still don't have any kind of lip within the cowl area from the intake tube. That means that water sloshing/splashing around has a better chance of getting into the intake vs having an overhead lip (which I get from the spectre boot on the flexduct) that lessens that chance.

Well if that tiny piece sticking out is all that’s saving our truck from disaster... I guess next time I’m messing with the truck, I will glue in some of the 1/16” abs I have laying around to add a little lip.

It might have a 2% chance of being better than no lip, maybe even less, but any percentage above 0 is worth it to me. :)
