My girl, dog and I are looking for trail partner(s) to visit Coyote Flats(Bishop) for a few days. Specifically we're looking for a backup truck in case of breakdown. If you do have a group going but would like to keep the details discreet, we'd appreciate a PM. I realize this is a request for a handout.

We are self-sufficient in terms of camping(food, shelter, 4x4, etc) but we're looking for safety in case of emergency.

    Additional details:
    - leaving from San Diego
    - dates ~7/2 - ~7/5
    - have been dispersed camping multiple times
    - stock 2017 Tacoma 4x4, good tires
    - previous trips include: Monache Meadows, white rim trail, multiple trips to Joshua Tree, Death Valley

Was just up there the other week and it was amazing. We’ll most likely be up in the area again the weekend of the 4th. I’ll keep you posted if we plan on doing the same trail or checking out something new.

My partner and I will likely be up in the Sequoia area that week, more towards the southern end though. We'll likely be over an hour away from where you're looking at but we can exchange numbers and comms if you'd like.

If I had to guess, I would say that there will be more people up in Coyote over the 4th of July weekend that you won't be able to set up your ARB awning without hitting another "overlander."

I might be down to roll. I’ve been once in April and it was freezing so I’d like to give it another go.

I would guess this will be the case. I spent some time up in the Eastern Sierras this past weekend dispersed camping in the Hot Creek area and it was quite busy up there. I think everyone is getting restless (that's why we went out). Combine the holiday with that and I think it's gonna be BUSY up there.

My aunt and cousin are going up 7/1 or 7/2 for the weekend and invited me to come along. I want to go cause I could use some more nature in my life but not sure I want to deal with crowds - and the obvious exposure concerns since they aren't "in my circle".

If the timing was different I'd almost be certainly up to cruise out there with ya. I love the Sierras and am looking for more excuses to get out there with my new truck.

Sup Rob! I was looking for a group that weekend as well. I have a stock taco but a fair amount of overlanding gear. I have been on about 5 outings so far. Looking forwards to great food and campfires (hoarder23 approved!)

I wouldn't call Coyote Flats a day trip from Socal. Gonna take ya 6hrs to get there, 6hrs to get back - doesn't leave much time for exploring or much of anything really. And 9 of those 12hrs of driving is just getting out of the city and then cruising on 395.

Not really the time of year for huge fires. If you want a huge fire there’s a 60 acre one out at Rowher Flats.

Okay, I meant I look forward to campfires which adhere to local laws and recommendations so long as appropriate.

Why would I want a 60 acre fire while camping :der:? Did you start the Rowher Flats one while camping

Totally, lots of folks usually get hurt on the 4th. Especially the foolish. Be careful man. Safety and precaution are my number one concerns as is the environment. I take all precautions and have my permit.

Found another truck and made it up to the flats and left Saturday. What a great area - I will certainly be doing another trip in the future. Too bad it's such a long drive to Bishop from SD.

If I understood the USDA website correctly, Inyo forest is under fire restrictions yet, there were still a couple of groups with fires. There's always someone.

Because people are selfish assholes and think watching a 3 minute youtube video makes them exempt from the rules

I've worked for NPS and USFS, and people literally don't think the rules apply to them when they go on vacation. It's pretty disheartening.

There were a few fires that started around Bishop last night from fireworks, but luckily there hasn't been any wind the last few days so they didn't spread.
