Just tried this. yep, the immediate area near the small cracks are less magnetic. Bummer. But just a little bit of area. Will not hold a weak mag but will hold a stronger one.
Area near the big crack is not less magnetic but is obviously a problem.

    (GOOD IDEA BTW)

I'd weld it at the exterior...
and I'd first start by stripping the paint down to bare metal surrounding the crack.

I'd also protect or remove the window glass and all flammable materials (door panel)
before welding that sheetmetal crack up.

If you can reach the inside of the weld after the fact... sweet
I would clean that up and seal it well so it can't corrode or rust.

This crappy pot metal called sheetmetal blows thru easily no doubt...
especially when I use my MIG 180 (220/240v) on it.
But even then it can be done and filled in using a stitch weld method.
I've repaired numerous cracks in my radiator surround
and inner fenders using my MIG 180.

I'd think TIG would work even better then using my MIG 180.

But TIG or MIG... I'd get it done.

yeah... gotta clean that wound up and see what's hiding under that bondo. Lol

    Looking for salvage doors.
Preferably a used door 'shell only' of the same color without rust.

    1) was the SR5+TRDoffroad rear door at all different from the base? Was it different from the pre-runner or sport?

    2) If the salvage yard is calling it calls it "grey" it must be correct, right?

    Stole this graphic from: http://www.toyotareference.com/tacoma/1995-2004
    Untitled.jpg
A rear door could only be off a 2000 to 2004 since the 4door started production in 2000. I see no other colors close to gray. Or am i wrong.

I dont blame um... no self respecting junk yard worker is going to call it "lunar mist metallic"

Looks like something that was an inexperienced/shotty repair job. Also from previous experience, if you tape over it for temporary fix, make sure the tape is completely sealed around it, no air or water can get to it. Is any air gets in there with the moisture, it will keep eating at the metal, then being trapped in the tape will just help the process along. So you may want to clean it good, tape it, then tape over each edge of the tape to try and help seal it.

May not be that important to you, but less rust, means less repair, and well less repair is always better.

Update: It is too rusted out under the bondo to weld shut. I taped over it.

After waiting over a year to see a replacement door pop up at a local junk yard in that color one did. But work was too busy (I work 80-100 hour weeks often, no pay for overtime). So today I was too sick to go to work (honest, a cold my son gave me, in May?) so I went to the junk yard. The door sold yesterday. Bummer. So did the topper. RATS.

I am sick of waiting for a spare door to end up at local junk yards. Is there something i can use that space for? Like cut into it and install a recessed jerry can holder? (ok, unwise, my son sits in the back. bad idea) pop up barbecue? antitank armor plate? Marine bulkhead hatch to make it easy to break into my truck? extra window? roof access ladder? It seems I have nothing to loose, I am going to pay full price for a paint job and a new door shell, so what could burn a few weekends failing to be installed into that door space?

Have you checked Yota Jims, Yotayard, and Toyo Pros? all 3 have pretty large stocks of Tacoma parts. Be prepared for sticker shock, they won't be cheap like U Pull N Pay.
